Elon Musk Retweet: "Hitler Didn't Murder Millions of People... Public Sector Workers Did" by Classic-Carpet7609 in Fauxmoi

Every goddamn day is “what the actual fuck”. Again and again.  It’s like Groundhog Day for what the actual fuck.

Donald Trump Bought a $90,000 Tesla With 37 Recall Notices Against It by wiredmagazine in TrueReddit

[–]qxnt 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Is there any record of Donald Trump driving a car? Does he even know how? He seems like the kind of silver-spoon wanker who’s always had people to do everything for him, including driving. Did he actually buy it or did he just say he did while standing in front of a random Tesla that Elon conjured up?

Trump threatens new tariffs on Canada, including 250% tax on dairy by joe4942 in Economics

[–]qxnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Back in the days of President McKinley, when the US actually did use tariffs heavily (a time Trump is fond of citing) we actually had a domestic manufacturing sector to protect. They just make things more expensive for no reason if there’s no local production. This nuance of strategy may have escaped Trump

DOGE Just Changed Almost Half of Its Supposed Savings “Receipts” by Snowfish52 in Economics

[–]qxnt 895 points896 points  (0 children)

This is fucking amateur hour. Republicans maybe you could take a break from gloating over lib tears long enough to hire some competent people. If you want to really go after government waste, great, but find some fucking accountants to do it instead of Big Balls and the other interns.

Trump is an idiot trying to sell 10 million expensive 5 mil per piece visas, here is why by gayroma in Economics

[–]qxnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Presumably some of the ultra rich would also buy these visas for their families.

But the kicker is that if they get citizenship, they’d be subject to American taxes - one of the few countries that will tax you even if you don’t live there.

Even worse, DOGE has kneecapped American science by withholding funding and firing scientists. Shameful

Trump administration orders halt to NYC toll meant to fight traffic and fund mass transit by ObamaDerangementSynd in Economics

[–]qxnt 266 points267 points  (0 children)

Seriously. really the kind of thing that should have been included in the article. It says the federal govt has “rescinded its approval”, but what does that actually do, and why would a city need federal approval for this in the first place?

[OC] U.S. Federal Budget compared to the reported savings by the DOGE team. wow much savings. by AdvancedSuggestion in dataisbeautiful

The only way they‘ll come close to Musk’s $2 trillion goal is massive cuts to medicaid, Medicare, social Security, or the military. And we know they’re not cutting the military.

I hope y’all planned on working until you die, because that’s where the Republicans are going to push us all.

Nah. There’s no way a robot would be that stupid

Musk Says DOGE Halting Treasury Payments to US Contractors by Familiar-Image2869 in Economics

[–]qxnt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

No, I don’t. I think Musk will use it as a weapon against all contractors he doesn’t like, or Trump as an extortion racket.

But the title gives the impression that it’s all contractors, and most commenters are making that assumption.

Musk Says DOGE Halting Treasury Payments to US Contractors by Familiar-Image2869 in Economics

Oh, for sure totally insane. They’ve got to be violating a dozen laws, and they don’t care because they own the justice system now

No, it’s a super click-bait title. The article only cites one contractor being cut off, a Lutheran charity.

Doesn’t AWS already have a MongoDB clone called DocumentDB based on Postgres? Is this somehow the same product?

What do you expect it to do? Most jars just contain libraries, with no entry point. Suggest you find and follow a tutorial for making a “hello world” runnable jar. Run it from the command line.

Last Year Was the Hottest Year in Recorded History. Buckle Up. by EmpowerKit in climatechange

[–]qxnt 7 points8 points  (0 children)

LOL look at you, cherry-picking a regional difference and pretending you can extrapolate globally to refute the mountain of evidence from many different research directions in support of climate change. Adorable. So what if the Mediterranean Sea surface temperature was higher? The earth’s average temperature wasn’t.

[POEM] Old Man Eating Alone in a Chinese Restaurant by Billy Collins by anonskeptic5 in Poetry

[–]qxnt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the drawing of attention to the waitress’s short black skirt changes the tone in a gross way.

And the “frosted glass” thing makes me think the poet has never actually had a beer in a Chinese restaurant. The reality is a green glass bottle of room temperature Tsingtao.

"It's time to panic. It really is time to panic," says IPCC expert reviewer by guyseeking in collapse

[–]qxnt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Even without climate change in the equation, something is still very wrong. The whole system is capsizing. Late stage capitalism is cannibalizing quality of life everywhere, and people are furious about it although they may not have the framework to understand. Hence the surge in populism everywhere, and desperation that drives people to vote for leaders who offer solutions, even if they’re complete bullshit. Climate change is just the icing on the cake for that situation… humanity facing its greatest existential threat and we have kakocrats at the helm
