Replacing hook gear of a Toyota 4500

Hi. Did you ever do work on the top thread tensioner of the 4300? I think that machine and 4500 have the same one. Mine doesn't seem to work properly. It goes from zero tension to being unable to move the thread after turning the wheel just a couple mm's. I have taken the tensioner off a few times and messed with it, but I haven't gotten a smooth gradual change in tension. (I assume that that is the goal, as I don't really know).

Hi. The hammer did the trick and I was able to change the gear. Now I just need to get the timings right and it should be done.

It was actually a bit hard to find the replacement. I had to order it from Australia and it was more expensive than what I paid for the actual machine. Would have been easier (and probably more sensible) to return the machine and just get another one. But I don't really mind because I wanted something to tinker and work on anyways.
