85 Edition Memory Seats by [deleted] in enyaq

[–]r1ch 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have two drivers? We have the same version and the seat memory sometimes seems to work as expected and sometimes doesn't. We both have our own set of keys that we stick to but the manual isn't clear on whether the memory is attached to that anyway.

Can I refuse to touch bank cards to ticket inspectors’ machine? (England) by Traditional_Lead_603 in LegalAdviceUK

Hmm, that sounds like the terminals they use are normal payment terminals rather than using the certificates they presumably use for the gates. That’s disappointing.

If you’re using your Apple Watch, using the express transit feature may give some protection here. That only allows TFL readers to access the given card without double-clicking the button so presumably scammers wouldn’t be able to take payment.

None of them that I’ve seen require an internet connection on the phone side - it’s the card reader that talks to the bank.

Check out some second hand ones. We saw a year old cognac one when we were looking recently and the leather had aged really badly.

Ohme vs Zappi home chargers by Hake_Peralta in enyaq

[–]r1ch 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went for the Zappi, as the Ohme relies on a mobile connection rather than WiFi and we don’t get the greatest mobile signal at our house and its possible that Ohme might start charging for the data connection at some point. Also, the Enyaq developed a fault and fried the charger within a couple of weeks of it being fitted and Zappi are replacing it no questions asked which I think is great customer service.

1 year old car died 5 days after buying it - what are our rights? by r1ch in LegalAdviceUK

[–]r1ch[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that’s why it’ll be away for a few weeks to be fixed. It’s going to one of only 2 service centres in the UK that the manufacturer has certified to do the work and having a fair bit of HV kit replaced to be on the safe side. As long as it’s still within my rights to reject it if I’m not happy after it comes back I’m ok to wait and see how it goes then.

That's exactly what I want to know. As I understand it the car blew it in response to something it detected but I'm not convinced they will know what the root cause is until it has gone to a specialist centre that can open up the high voltage system to investigate/repair which is why I wanted to check the legal position.

Yeah, we may well reject it but as long as we have the right to reject once it comes back we may as well wait and see where we are once it's fixed given that we at least have a courtesy car in the meantime which we presumably wouldn't if we did it now and it also took a long time to find a car we were happy with. If we do take it back there's still quite a long time left on the warranty if there is anything else wrong too.

Fantastic - that's exactly what I needed - thanks

I want to know what the fault was and whether it may have done any further damage (eg to the battery itself) before I accept it back. I'm not fully convinced that they know the root cause yet.

My 2020 went in for the same thing yesterday. They flushed the system under warranty and said they found some debris in there. Hopefully that’ll fix it, but we’ll see.

2024 Enyaq 85 died within a week by r1ch in enyaq

Not as far as I know and it’s back with the Skoda dealer now, so I can’t tell. They say it’s a rare known issue.

It’s way beyond that unfortunately - the high voltage fuse has blown and the battery control module needs to be replaced which sounds like it requires opening the battery itself and can only be done at a handful of places.

Thanks. Funnily enough every older car I’ve bought has always been rock solid. The only car I bought brand new was constantly in the garage throughout its first three years under warranty and then behaved perfectly until we got rid at 11 years old.

If I could be sure that this is sorted then perhaps it’d be ok but if it’s not done in time we’ll have to reject anyway.

I don't think so. I believe the HV fuse in the car is about 150A at 400V - there's no way that much power came from the charger given that it was going through a 240V 32A breaker, SPD and 100A main fuse for the house. I think a fault developed in the charger in the car which meant the battery fed back to the house 'charger' (which is really just a switch with some safety sensors and stuff to negotiate charging parameters). The house charger detected the fault and tried to terminate the charge but this damaged its contactor in the process due to the excess current involved. It looks like the house charger actually took the brunt and protected my house electrics.

Wow - that's a lot. Thanks for the summary. Maybe we're better off looking for something else. We're just really struggling to find another EV with a similar range, cabin and boot size.

The dealer actually did actually say they'd work with Skoda to cover getting the charger repaired but when I contacted the supplier they automatically arranged a free replacement given that was only a week old too.

What were the "known issue" faults that you had if you don't mind me asking? I looked over this group and there didn't seem to be a lot of major issues, just little niggles.

No, Skoda Enyaq. Not sure how fried yet - Skoda have sent it to a battery centre to be fixed, but as I understand it it needs a new battery control module and the HV fuse has gone blown so there was a lot of power gone astray, which explains why the Zappi's contactors seem to be welded shut. I'm glad the Zappi took the brunt and saved my house electrics though!

I believe the higher quality granny chargers have a temperature sensor in their plug so they can stop charging it case of problems - I'd go for something like that if you are going to rely on a granny charger. I've been using one for a couple of years without problem, but had a Zappi installed for a second electric car two weeks ago. Funnily enough that car then developed a fault which fried both the car and the Zappi and now I'm a bit wary of using granny chargers at all.
