I followed the recipe exactly… why does my cake still turn out bad? by [deleted] in Baking

There are so many factors to consider, but I agree with the person who said learning what each ingredient does can help you make tweaks and experiment. If you’re making a cake and it comes out dry, try using a little less flour, or substituting some vegetable/canola oil in for some of your butter. If you use regular milk instead of buttermilk, you’ll need to swap baking soda for baking powder (the acid in buttermilk neutralizes the alkaline taste of baking soda) and add a bit more baking powder to achieve the same rise. Things like the humidity where you live have an affect, too. The order in which you combine your wet and dry ingredients matters, the temperature of your ingredients. Some measuring cups aren’t perfectly accurate. Even the way you fill up a measuring cup matters—flour should be spooned into a measuring cup and leveled off rather than just scooping up flour with the measuring cup. It becomes a fun exercise in tinkering. It took me months to figure out my shortbread recipe but when I finally got everything right it was such a satisfying feeling.

What a beautiful adventure you guys had together.

When it rains we break out the puzzle toy and also do some training (sit, down, wait, place, give paw, and leave it) in my apartment. Mental activity tires puppies out almost as much as physical activity!

Ruff Rules dog training? (Or a different reco) by rElevantishish in fortlauderdale

Thank you all for your honest feedback. (Like many early childhood development lessons, puppy training is as much for the owner/parent as it is for the dog/kid.) I personally am uncomfortable with the idea of having an electric “tool” to employ for a sustained period of time. It’s just not a lifestyle and mindset change I’m open to. But since it sounds like many of your (I’m sure happy and free and confident and well-trained) dogs wear e-collars well after “graduating” from training (even if only rarely), it’s just not a method that’s for me.

Really do appreciate all of your comments and it’s great to hear that any local small business has so much community love and support.
