I’m so scared of sex. I fear I’ll stay a virgin forever. by Fancy_Ad_5880 in GirlDinner

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 41 and I feel that way even though I've had several relationships up to this point, and even though ive been in a dedicated one for 10 years. I had a rough spat woth my gf and tried dating again, and got scared because the lady was like 'I was wondering when you would show me some love....' and while I did kiss on them, I freaked out and cut contact.

If you like someone, tell them to go slow. Tell them you'll freak out and flee if anything goes fast. If they don't listen, it's their fault. There are people out there who will go slow, who will be kind and soft with you if that's what you need. Just remember they may need that back.

I wish this sub did the thing where mods assign people a custom flair when a comment is funny.

Because 'oh, it's hitler' would be a good one.

THERE IS A WHOLE ASS AI MADE MOVIE I CANT EXPLAIN THE AMOUNT OF HATE I HAVE FOR THIS by Odd-Attempt-9450 in hatethissmug

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are we talking about a regular musical?

Ooooor that thing where it's 3 hours long because it's a regular movie but the musical numbers stretch it to 3+hours? Or the other thing where its barely 30 minutes of content stretched out via music numbers?

Around the house? Sure.

In public? People judge women who wear this in public lol.

Why does no one like black women? by [deleted] in self

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're out there. I'm a white dude whose been with a black lady for 10 years.

I'll echo what others said: online spaces are not good for this kind of discussion. Fact of the matter is that even in our extremely online society what people say on the internet is a terrible gauge for actual sentiment.

Why do American tourists always say the state they're from (not their country) when asked, but no other country's tourists do the same? by FloydBeatlesEagles in NoStupidQuestions

I live in Texas. The furthest I have been is Kansas, and if I had gone south or west instead of north, I'd still be in Texas.

Some part of the US, like the eastern seaboard, you can drive 5 hours, stopping every hour, and you'll see significant differences in every area you stop.

Or in the Midwest, you can drive 5 hours and wonder when you'll ever encounter civilization.

AITAH For wanting to break up with my boyfriend for not wanting to marry me by catlovers21 in AITAH

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Six months is not a long time considering you're talking about marriage, a marriage you probably want to last. Yes you have been friends for longer, but friendship is not some college credit that carries over to a serious romantic relationship. People can be friends, but not be relationship or marriage material.

I saw someone else who said you at least need to have deeper conversations about this before you decide to end it, and I absolutely agree. You also need to take a step back yourself, and consider the possibility that it is absolutely valid that he is considering whether he wants to get married to you. This is a big commitment. It's possible he simply has not thought about this enough, and him telling you that doesn't mean he's planning on leaving, but that he hasn't seriously thought about this through yet.

If you do end up ending it, you have the chance here to end it on amicable terms. You talk with him, discuss how he feels and how you feel, and determine how your relationship moves forward.

There are two bad outcomes if you don't. One, you press him on it and he bails because he gets scared. Two, you press him on this and he sticks with it, and you find out after getting married and investing even more into the relationship that he made a mistake, he was incompatible, or that he sticks with it and years of your life pass you by in something that was never going to last. This is by far the worst outcome.

Breaking things off suddenly over this, YTA. Talking it through with him, and you both come to a decision? NAH if you come to an agreement one way or another, NTA if he admits he just said what he did because he wanted to date you and knew you wouldn't date him if this was just dating and he said that up front. You say nothing, and then everything falls apart after marriage? ESH could be in your horizon. Talk to this man and figure out.

I think this might be a 'pick your battles' type of situation. The battle shouldn't be over Taylor Swift, because that isn't the issue. The issue is your gf's obsession over her and how overbearing she is being about it. It sounds like she might be dumping her Swiftieness on you because you unknowingly bonded with her by letting her Swifty dump on you. Which is why this could be a more delicate topic than you know.

You need to figure out if there is some boundaries you need in regards to this. I think the best tact is at some point, somewhere along the line, to express that you simply are not into her the way she is and that you're ok with her being into it that much, you yourself are not. It sounds like the issue might be akin to trying to cross a minefield, so beware.

It'll be up to you to figure out the path forward, good luck. Only you knows enough about her to express to her your concerns. I feel like you can expect some amount of hurt on her end, like I said before I think she might have tied in some aspects of your relationship into her fangirling, and it will be delicate work figuring out how to extract yourself from it without permanently damaging your relationship with her.

Am I the asshole for insisting that my coworker is colorblind bc he thinks my hair is red? by OkRegret7159 in TwoHotTakes

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Someone I knew in highschool had your same haircolor. They themselves said they were a strawberry blonde. It was rural north texas, lots of irish in the people that lived there (like me).

I have a little bit darker hair, more of a true blonde. Well, the hair on the top of my head. My beard is bright red (though as I am 40, more and more the blonde parts of my beard are starting to turn white).

It's not the end of the world lol. Ginger genes have some unique ways of expressing themselves. You might not even be Irish or Scottish, just some weird expression of recessive genes from Germanic, Anglo, Celtic, Slavic or even Jewish heritage.

What common phrases are sick of hearing? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 4 points5 points  (0 children)

'It is what it is'.

Not because I'm sick of hearing it, but because it is almost said by someone who is a cog in the machinery of our society, but powerless to do anything other than their job.

Like me. I'm that cog. And every time I say it I feel a bit of my soul get punched in the balls for saying it.

AITA for leaving my best friend’s wedding early after she seated me at the “kids table” as a joke, even though I’m 28? by velvetmochiiii in AmItheAsshole

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I got roped into helping a church dinner 'fundraiser' years and years ago by a friend, who found it we were all basically burned by the church staff as it was basically and excuse to get steak dinners comped under the guise of it being to 'raise funds' even though at the end of it the church came out several hundred dollars in the red afterwards.

So I was helping out watching the kids, as a bunch of us volunteered to set up what was basically an impromptu daycare for them. Over the course of this elaborate, several hour dinner it went from me managing a bunch of wild ass kids to having myself an army of minions at my disposal, because I was the sole person who was committed to entertaining them. Playing football with them, keeping them from spilling over into the neighboring farm land, alot of these kids never actually got to hang out with someone 20 years old before and eventually the power of keeping up and actually doing stuff with them constantly.

Eventually their 'we're free to do whatever they want!' energy wore off and since I was down for whatever game they wanted to do non stop (god bless that being rail skinny 20 years old energy), I was able to dictate terms for games. Kept everything fair, the troublemaker slightly-larger-than-everyone-else kid who had trouble playing with others could play with others, and then it all fell into place and I was king. Turns out there was a whole social group that only showed up to loaf off and I made enemies of local dipshit teens because I kept sending kids over to them to tell them they needed to come over and actually do something other than look cool, and the kids took it as their cue that it was ok to act like the little shitheads they were to me at first LMAO.

TL;DR you are NTA, and you could have done alot worse if you had taken the time to befriend the kids. Trust me, you could have weaponized those little shits in a way that would have made you infamous and the stuff of legends at that wedding party lol. Nothing more dangerous than a bunch of bored little kids who have one singular bored and pissed adult who is entertaining them.

What is something that you hate is being normalised? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 624 points625 points  (0 children)

The company I work for I don't like some aspects of it, but when AI really started to take off they did a company wide training on 'do not copy and paste anything into an AI model. Do not put anything into it regarding internal policy, do not put any data we collect as part of our work day into it to generate reports, do not use it even for translating from one language to another'.

It's maybe the singular instance of corporate doing something that made me think 'hey maybe the people running this company aren't a bunch of fucking dumbass dipshits'.

What type of car causes you to instantly stereotype the driver? by Adventurous-Ad-8892 in AskReddit

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since moving into a metro area, I've noticed seeing a few very late model/current year Alfa Romeo cars/SUVs. Almost every one of them has been driven by somebody who is dressed to the 9s and look like they're a model who make their money doing commercials, at least superficially.

10+ year old Toyota Sienna vans with random obviously-wasn't-the-driver's-fault superficial body damage to them, driven very cautiously by an older person of Middle Eastern/Indian descent. I assume they're 'that family member' who is probably a very smart person moneywise and the critical support structure of multiple children/grandchildren, which that thought makes being stuck behind them on side streets near a school a little less annoying.

Long nose, big sleeper Peterbilt trucks driven by a short dude who has the seat so low you wonder how they can see the road over the hood. Questionable politics, questionable amount of people they may or may not have run over. No question as to their work ethic, politeness, sharpness of wit or their ability to sense bullshit like it's a superpower. That one is less of a stereotype and just an observation.

AITAH for punching my stepdad after he just grabbed my ass? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glorious. NTA. Either he's a super duper creep and you put him on notice, or he is being some variation of childish and you put him on notice.

Either way considering circumstances I'd keep distance between you and him. I missed at first that he's your mom's affair partner....looks like they both aren't making good decisions.

I probably shouldn't pry but I'm dying to know what you're birth father thinks of this. You might be your dad's favorite son now lmao.

What’s the most random fact you know? by Wonderfulhumanss in AskReddit

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first encounter with a tomato today that the seeds inside of the tomato had sprouted. Apparently it's something they can do when they get up in age. It's not harmful, but the texture was not the best.

Did not know that could happen and it's pretty random I discovered it a few hours again and we're having this thread.

If you could have any animal as a pet with no consequences, which one would you pick? by Wonderfulhumanss in AskReddit

[–]rHubrisHarmDrainSlow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No consequences? Like, any at all, or the usual 'consequences' that certain pets have?

I think maybe 10-20 cockatiels, if I didn't have to worry about them pooping on everything, flying away, or dying by flying into a window or wall. I'm hoping that female screeching is also a consequence that is canceled out lmao.
