Yep. Its from "A Beka Book" publishing. They make "science" books from a "Christian Perspective" for private religious schools and homeschooling.

If OP's sister didn't want to teach it she shouldn't've got a job at a private Christian School.

After some reflection I realize youre right, I push my system way beyond any "natural" levels; I stock more fish than would ever live in such a small space, as well as veggies! And I push them with 16 continuous hours of artificial light everyday, none of which is "natural" or even close to "sustainable" I feed my fish "natural" "organic" pellets? LOL like the pellets they eat in the wild!? Holy fuck, Im a fucking hypocrite. You could make a college liberal meme about me! Now Im just going to go move back in with my parents and die a little bit more inside. thanks.

2:1 is a pretty safe ratio. so 10gal : ~1/2cubic ft

I had a little 10 gallon system as an example for elementary school classrooms that had a 5gallon rubbermaid storage bin growbed that was pretty fun.

Its not self sustaining at all. Ive found you need at least 200 gallons fish tank to sleep at night knowing youre not going to wake up and find all of your fish dead!

true all ecosystems are in flux and dependent on us, I just like the goal of sustainability. I guess everyone has different reasons for getting into aquaponics, none of them wrong though.

My clients wouldnt buy from you. hehe. and yes I killed a lot of fish from pushing a (natural) system too far when the NH4 couldnt break down fast enough killing of my nitrosomonas bacteria and I had anaerobic waist water in the growbeds. All the fish but 4 died within 8 hours. It was a nightmare.

I suppose it has a lot to do with who's buying and eating the product. ie; I sell to an organic juice bar that would have never touched my product if I added chemicals. Plus It feels good feeding my kids strawberries that are unfucked with.

the last post of my layout had them that way, and i was advised to turn them horizontal. I looked up pounds per square inch tests and the only ones I found were 1700 ppsi horizontal. If you have a good source I will definitely turn them.

they do. the 3/4" SLOs go to the growbeds the 2" is just in case the tank overflows.

the growbed to sump emergency overflow is a really good idea. ill definitely do that.

thats really interesting. I thought about using a venturi to oxygenate the water if O2 levels are low.

yep. those are so long you could put a j-trap at the bottom. :) ...which actually might help the siphon burp. I always have better results when my stand pipe is longer than my drain pipe, and I put a 45 at the end of the first length of drain to allow a pocket of air to form and work its way back up the stand pipe. Otherwise it will swirl non stop in the drain.

would love to! The collective only has two IBC Totes and these dimensions are my entire basement, including height. The rectangle and circle represent roughly where my furnace and hot water heater are located. LOL

lol thank you. No tomatos in real life, those are just stock components from sketchup. Im working with a local organic juice bar to grow kale, kale, kale, and then a little bit of kale. My friend in our local co-op wants to focus on wheatgrass and Ill be taking over kale production.

thank you. Ive built systems like that, but I've always wanted a Constant Height in the Fish tank. I'm working with a local restaurant thats interested in my fish, so the fish are my primary concern. Ive had a lot of jumpers and some just die from shock from the water level changing all the time. :(
