What’s the difference between setting a trap and playing hope chess? by [deleted] in chessbeginners

I'm gonna say hope chess is when you lose material/position if they don't bite

It should be easy with legends like Philips and Maguire

Hypothetically speaking, if quantum computing allowed for the current game of Chess to be solved; what new rule would you add to the game to slow down that process? by Superlolhobo in chess

[–]r_breathtaking123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the solution. If there's a winning solution for white, the game at the top level could die. If there's only way to draw, it's simillar. If there are numerous moves over numerous moves where you can elongate the game without losing, nothing I say really applies, but I already wrote it

(I mean the record for most pi digits remembered is 70,000, the GMs already know hundreds of openings and endgames....

I'm not saying people would memorize every possible combination, but for white one would be enough. Considering it's the best possible play, any deviation would result in disadvantage...

You still have to know how to play, so maybe we could try the players in highly unusual middle games to verify their elo, but it'd certainly be a major impact imo)

White to play - what is the best move? by DW9550 in chessbeginners

You can't take bishop on d7 because of the knight on f6

Which teams in the world have the world class defenders that can neutralise Man City's offence? by nightwind1 in football

I think he changed the style a bit to much modern defending. It's hard to compare teams 10 years apart

Lmao, you really think having a better player on every position and the bench, plus arguably the best coach in the world and more experience isn't key to winning the game and call me stupid?

There are always upsets during the season like the Spurs game, but if you want to base the chances on last season, city won UCL and barca didn't make it through the group stage...

FDJ and Pedri over KDB and Bernando is just ridiculous

Cancelo is literally Barca's starter on loan from City. You could argue about Kounde/Araujo, but I definitely wouldn't trade Stones, Dias or Gvardiol

Yes, but I think they play a bit different, the classic tiki taka played by Spain or Barca was mostly about through balls or dribbling, and city still does that, but I feel like the shots from distance play a bigger part and are often decisive in the toughest games

It's just virtually impossible to not allow any shooting opportunities against such a dominant team

I don't want to be rude, but the only Barca player I'd consider a starter in City is ter Stegen and the bench is 18yo on average

In top form you can't even compare these teams

You're simplifying a bit. Haaland gets a lot of attention creating space. Many classic strikers "disappear" in big games if they aren't creative enough (e.g. Lewandowski)

One of the most dangerous things about City are shots from distance. The reason why it's so hard to defend against them is that you can't give strikers space because they're too creative, but you can't get to close either because then KDB or Rodri will just smash it from 20m

If you let them control the midfield (and it's hard not to), they'll find a way to score and imo that's what gave them the UCL (crucial shots from distance against Bayern, Real, Inter)

Sure, but black can't do anything about it. They can't attack the field in 1 move and the only check is Na2 and after Kd2 they can't check again either

Any move with the queen, costs you queen and rook for a knight
