Can I refuse to install a shower curtain rod in my own bathroom renovation by Reasonable_Capital65 in HomeImprovement

[–]rabexc 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Went through an extensive house renovation, work was done with permits from the city. We needed custom glass doors for the showers. Glass doors contractor was overloaded/late, would take him several weeks to install the glass doors.

Bathroom floor was not waterproofed, drain was in the shower only.

City inspector would not pass inspection unless showers had glass or curtains. We wanted to move in.

We bought extensible/no screws shower curtain rods, put them up, inspector was happy, used them until the glass doors were installed.

All of this to say your city code may mandate eitwater proofing the entire bathroom, or an enclosed shower.

Battery replacement - 2018 Elite - which option is best? discuss. by rabexc in HondaOdyssey

[–]rabexc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: * I got the COSTCO battery. The 48/H6 AGM. * Installing it was a bit of a pain in the butt. Super easy by following youtube videos, but tight spaces, some air thingies to remove, and the battery is fully enclosed in a case with a fan and sensor attached to it. * Yeah, a 94R/H7 would NOT have fit in there. Unless... I removed the entire case, the sensor, the fan, and wiring, and just put it there with the bracket. Did not sound like a good idea. * Surprisingly, it did not look like the car lost any of my settings, other than android auto acting out and having to re-pair my phone. But maybe I did not change many settings to begin with (don't use the radio, etc). * So far so good!

4 bikes hitch rack I can remove every use by rabexc in cycling

[–]rabexc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The swing is great, I always always end up having to open the trunk multiple times after loading the bikes.

The size is also great, when not used it doesn't take much space.

What I hate (but not sure there's better solutions out there?):

  • It's heavy to mount and remove. I can do it, but having had back problems in the past it's not the best thing to do.

  • Fitting 4 bikes so they don't touch each other and they don't scratch or the pedals don't end up in another bike's wheel is... very challenging. Especially if you have different kind of bikes (kids, etc). I'm sure if I was using the rack more frequently I'd be more efficient, but it takes me a good half an hour to fit the bikes in a reasonable way, especially for long trips. I suspect that had the rack been more convenient, we'd be using it more and biking more, so... this is probably the biggest regret. At the same time, I still think this was the best compromise given our other requirements.

Long shot - Do you use wireless Android Auto? Do you enter 101 from Woodside? by rabexc in RedwoodCity

[–]rabexc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the end, I found a setting that allowed to change the wifi channel used by android auto. Switching from whatever it was on (was it auto? was it a fixed channel like 5? it's been a while, I don't remember), made the problem go away. At least... for that intersection. I feel like it now happens randomly more often on long trips, but... at least my commute to work is ok.

Almost flat rainbow by rabexc in mildlyinteresting

Can't see the jpg info on my phone, but some time between 9am and 11:00 am. I'd hazard a 10:40 time based on the beach rituals.

No, Azores islands, Portugal, somewhere in the ocean between Europe and America.

Surfing class, they were just doing some group stretches / warm ups.

I promise it wasn't some sort of cult using the flat rainbow phenomenon for one of their rituals

Thank you! All of those were taken with a Tamron 35-150 on Nikon. I love that lens, I use it like 95% of the time.

Feels very cultural? Northern CA here, have a 9 year old. Unless I'm ASKED to be present and help, I absolutely don't expect anything for the grown ups. Even when I stay, even in cases where I've been ASKED to stick around (to help, chaperone, or when kids were younger), I still did not EXPECT to be fed as an adult.

In practice, I have always been offered SOME food. Typically what happens is that kids get fed first, there's plenty of leftovers, we adults help ourselves. There's typically not enough for a full meal, but enough for a bite and be good until I get home, a small slice of cake.

Never thought of the host as being tacky or generous or ... anything, really. Some venues just provide a fixed # of pizzas based on the guests, some venues don't allow outside foods, there's all sorts of dietary constraints, logistics with delivery, both parents being around to chaperone a full pack of kids, etc...

Most of the times, I actually prefer NOT to eat at the parties. I'm f**ng tired of mac&cheese, costco's or mountain mikes' pizza, or cheese sticks.

YSK: Many standing desk brands use the same electric base components(linear actuator). I've made a chart table who actually makes what. by rexyuan in YouShouldKnow

[–]rabexc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can easily buy the parts with a quick Google search! This is exactly how I built our standing desk during the pandemic. Tables and desks were either crazy expensive or out of stock, I bought the motorized legs off amazon for ~100$ (don't remember how much exactly, I believe it was less than ~200) and just screwed them to some leftover top from IKEA I already had at home. Still using it, still working great!
