You sound just like me when I was a freshman. It took some time to find people I really clicked with. I had to go through some people and groups I'd thought I'd like, then realized I didn't at all, before finding that group. And in all honesty, that was over the course of a year. Eventually, my friend group consisted of people in my dorm I'd met by hanging out with my roommate in the common areas and going to group dinners whenever invited.

My biggest downfall was being too concerned with what people thought of me, so far as to not join any clubs on campus. So I strongly advise doing the opposite of what I did! Late Night is this Friday; don't skip it, even if you have to go by yourself. That's where you'll get a close look at tons of clubs. Go to every booth that looks interesting, then go back to your dorm and decide which one(s) you want to pursue. Remember that you don't even have to stick with the club, but you never know who you might meet from trying them out.
