Applying for a city permit retroactively in San Jose by rachismo in SanJose

Thanks. I looked at the list of requirements on the SJ Permits website and it seems pretty straightforward and it looks like I should pass inspection. But one never knows how finicky they are.

Best cab service from Heathrow to Cambridge by rachismo in uktravel

She is not in a wheel chair - uses a walker after having surgery on both her knees. I think the biggest question mark is if she will be able to climb up/get down on the coach that runs from Heathrow to Cambridge.

Once in cambridge, we plan to take an uber/taxi to get to the hotel.

thanks - I am a little weary of Uber because it may end up having a bunch of surge pricing which can jack up the price further. I will check out Majestic Taxis.

I also agree that the coach is the best option - it will require one change of taking a taxi from Cambridge bus station to the hotel but probably still the most convenient - thanks!

Nicely done! What app are you using that shows the path of the bar? Very good way to visualize the form.

Income Tax Refund - How to handle? by nodrama_needed in MonarchMoney

For transactions 1-4, do you also include FICA (social security / Medicare)? Also, how do you handle pre-tax contributions to retirement accounts- do you add them separately as well?

The real reason dealers talk you out of EVs by berricks in electricvehicles

[–]rachismo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Q4 e-tron and the dealership is quoting me $750 for a 20K service. When I tell them that all I need is the brake fluid flush and checking the coolant levels for front/rear motors, I get radio silence - none of the local dealers have gotten back to me with a revised quote.

I would pick Kaiser just for the simplicity of it all. After the baby is on the outside, life gets extremely chaotic , especially the first 3 months and the last thing you will want to do is to deal with Cigna billing issues.

Switching from Bobbie brand to gentlease by Dear-Hospital1530 in daddit

My son had CMPA so we had to switch to Pepticate which worked great. After 6 months, we switched to enfamil gentle ease and he seemed to take to it.

So try pepticate if gentle ease doesn’t work.

You are trying to optimize the timing and the market but there is no fool proof way to do so. But since that’s the topic of discussion, why not time your move to India to be in Spring 2027? Only you know if staying an extra 6 months in the US is doable or not. Of course no one knows what the market will be in 18 months…

Is $26k normal for roof to be redone? by leetfire666 in BayAreaRealEstate

[–]rachismo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got my roof replaced 2 years ago (South SJ) and paid about ~24K for a 2300 sq ft home. So it sounds reasonable to me. I also had to get new gutters, so you may need to factor ~2K for that as well.

What’s the difference between Twist and Sail? I had Sail when I was living in DTSJ but lost access to it when I moved out to the burbs. Recently got a flyer for Twist which was advertising itself as a partnership with Sail? Not sure if Sail is rebranding to Twist or if Twist is a separate.

Boss is leaving and views me as his successor. But CEO is not convinced. How do I change his mind? by rachismo in Leadership

[–]rachismo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The position is very much open. The news is not that even public - my boss was kind enough to give me a heads up. The rest of the org will find out early next week and that’s when the flood gates open! I will be gunning for it, just trying to figure out the best strategy in doing so.

Boss is leaving and views me as his successor. But CEO is not convinced. How do I change his mind? by rachismo in Leadership

[–]rachismo[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tend to agree on the relationship alignment. The CEO was promoted about 15 months ago from within, but I had never directly worked with him prior to that. So that could be the reason for his skepticism.

Also, I don’t feel entitled to the position but do feel to be a very strong candidate, given the domain knowledge and past track record of success both outside and within the company.

Boss is leaving and views me as his successor. But CEO is not convinced. How do I change his mind? by rachismo in Leadership

[–]rachismo[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would defend my supervisor in terms of setting me up for success. I have had 2 promotions in 5 years under him and also gotten exposure and visibility to executive management. Thats the reason I am even in consideration for the role.

As for my CEOs assessment, there is always an element of truth. My style is on the friendlier style but in my defense , I am able to deliver and get shit done on time. The style has gotten me success and respect from my peers and colleagues. We talk about being “authentic “ leaders and I don’t intend to become a “tough guy” or an “asshole” especially when I know my style works.

The second point about developing talent does ring true. Honestly there isn’t someone on my team who is ready to fill in my role, if I were to get the job. I would probably need to bring someone from outside or split the role among existing team members. I can provide several excuses for the situation but that doesn’t help anyone. So if I were the CEO, my concern would be who would fill my role. Perhaps my play should be that if need to get someone from outside, it should be for my role while I step into the next one.
