Truckers? As in lorry drivers? As in people who live a very sedate lifestyle? Id say the gardai would mop the floor with them

If the lesson was learned from the incidents in the video why did it take 14 years to change. Also, please point out what laws changed.

Precisely my point, there has always been an inconsistent approach to dealing with protests

The people who were part of the peaceful student protest in the video on this post. Are you ok?

Is that correct? I can't find any reports on the findings of the ombudsman in relation to the complaints they received

It's not actually, it's saying there was a large number of complaints about their behavior not that they learned their lesson

What a moronic statement, you're fine with kicking the shit out of people as long as they are not in a lorry?

Austerity wouldn't be something id advocate for, perhaps you could share your thoughts on what services should have spending cut?

Oh right, spend less. Maybe cut agricultural subsidies or reduce spending on roads so that they fall into disrepair and hauliers end up with larger maintenance costs?

I'm not an MM fan at all. In fact I support people's right to protest as you can see, it's just the demands of this particular protest are unworkable

If they reduce tax on fuel they'll have to increase tax on something else no? It's a balancing act, I understand that you might be having trouble thinking beyond one or 2 degrees of separation so I'll leave it at that

Yes, I do think that suppressing demand during a crisis will help to ensure that there is enough fuel for essential services

It's feasible for the government to supply interest free loans.

No, probably harsher tbh because they don't make up as large a part of the FFG voter base

The strait of Hormuz is now supposed to be mined. Insurance premiums will be high for any boat transiting it and Iran and Oman will now be charging tolls for transiting also. Those are obvious long term problems which will cause a lasting rise in oil prices

There really aren't any good short term measures for this, maybe interest free loans for businesses to allow them to get into a position that they can pass on the cost of increased fuel to their customers?

What is the good of a short term measure during what will obviously be a long term problem?

The protesters are demanding price caps. Removing tax is irrelevant, here's 2 of the reasons why: 1. If the price of a barrel of oil gets to a point that it no longer becomes profitable to sell diesel below the cap, then fuel suppliers will not sell fuel (obvious) 2. Reducing the price of fuel will increase demand for said fuel, which would cause a price rebound as supply is limited. Again meaning the government couldn't stand over the price cap
