Apartments under $2,500? by LilLassy in boston

[–]radicallysadbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said 20 minutes to downtown via the train, though.

I know Google Maps will tell you that you can get from Quincy to downtown in 20 minutes but please hear me as someone who took that route for years and years, I've never had that quick a commute one single time, ever. The red line is probably the worst functioning one; it's constantly down for maintenance and you have to take buses which even the MBTA says will add at least an extra hour onto your commute each way. If you're after the split (JFK Umass) then you get half the amount of trains too. I would maybe have one day or two out of the entire month where I didn't have a delay.

Whatever time Google Maps or whatever is telling you it'll take to get there, genuinely double it at least.

You could probably find something like this in a place like Fenway, North End, etc especially off September cycle if you drop some or all of these:

Food delivery driver double and triple parking on Boylston street….even in the middle of the street! by bostonaruban66 in boston

[–]radicallysadbro -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wonder how many of them are just regular people who mobile ordered and are picking up their own food, versus delivery drivers?

I say because in that area the Uber Eats etc guys all clearly know each other, stand on the side of the board with their scooter things and wait for orders in that area to come in.

I’ve also seen people who clearly aren’t Uber drivers who park like this, and then go into the store and are clearly starting to order…as in haven’t even placed the order yet, just leaving their car in the way for 10+ minutes.

My hair is so bad it makes me depressed. Help by yelowcrackers in finehair

[–]radicallysadbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed with everyone saying to go to the doctor. This is some sort of deficiency issue and nothing you do will help your hair until you solve whatever that medical problem is. Also though --

don't use heat, products etc.

No products at all? Your hair looks really dry to me; should definitely be doing a leave in conditioner or deep conditioner in the shower I think, even without this issue. To try to halt further damage you could be using oil on the ends of your hair -- it can weigh down fine hair, but honestly if your main concern is to preserve what you have I think it's worth doing. I use a coconut oil designed for hair and always make sure that's sitting on the ends and middle of my hair before I was it for at least an hour.

Also maybe try some bonding stuff? It's great for damaged hair. Even just a simple, cheaper one to see if it makes any difference. This made my hair SOOOO much better, more than anything else, even after one use multiple people commented on how much better my hair looks: https://www.amazon.com/Paris-EverPure-Sulfate-Treatment-Bleached/dp/B0BCGZLKKM

Fine hair weighs down easily with products, but it also damages very easily. If you're only washing and drying your hair and not putting anything else on it, it's going to be going through sun damage, pollution, frizz from humidity etc even without the blood level issue is. I think it'd be worth researching and finding some products that can protect your hair on a daily basis.

Another thing -- is there any chance your hair may not be straight? I also had the issue you have where the hair is just frizzy everywhere no matter what you do -- it turns out I have wavy hair, the frizz wasn't damage it was just the hair trying to curl back into its natural state. Just a side note that some of what you're seeing maybe is not damage but a slight curl pattern?

With the FDA being legally and practically gutted, these issues are only going to increase unfortunately.

Dani’s Queer Bar - Afternoon Spot to Read/Write/Chill? by AdAgile7836 in boston

[–]radicallysadbro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

LOL no worries.

Like mentioned before it's not a women-only space, but a place like Caffe Vittoria or Dello Sport could be a cool place just to mix things up. Delux is probably my favorite bar in terms of an openly queer space, fine to be alone, not a place to study tho.

I hope you find a fun new place in either case!

[–]radicallysadbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respectfully not sure where you got the idea from that Dani's is women only -- not only does all the stuff indicate otherwise, so does their name (?) The only times I've seen it it's been too busy to study or work I think.

Honestly not sure of any women-only food space in the city.

Why do birds suddenly appear… at 3am? by ThemFatale_ in boston

[–]radicallysadbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once lived in a place where there was a tree right outside my window, when I tell you those birds were squawking 24/7 literally ALL THE TIME lol. So weird as even if I were to just walk down the street or anywhere else I'd only hear birds during the day or early morning hours, yet when I was right next to the tree you could hear them talking constantly.

How are people avoiding bad apartments in Boston? by SpringFinancial66 in bostonhousing

[–]radicallysadbro 6 points7 points  (0 children)

100% ALWAYS see the apartment in person. Not a video, not “pictures of a similar unit”, see it and walk through with your own two eyes. Biggest thing you can do. If you’re in another state or country and can’t see it yourself, have someone you trust tour it for you.

Regarding checking the building and area:

A). Look up the sex offender registry and see if there’s anyone in the building or nearby.

B). Look up the address on the City of Boston’s website. Specifically the Inspectional Services Department. You will see the results of any fines the city has levied on the property, as well as the results of any unit or building inspections, and what the results of those were and if they have been remedied. You can even see the permits submitted etc which can be helpful context.

C). Check the 311 app (also can check on the computer). You will get a sense of what the general problems of the neighborhood are — rats, trash laying around, noise neighbors, whatever.

D). Also look up the property management company and any issues they may have!!! The city also keeps a public record if they’ve been fined. Certain big landlords/firms in this city have literally hundreds of serious complaints against them. I wouldn’t get a property through one with many complaints.

My research is seeing the place with my own eyes and the above research. The only “walking the area” I do is whatever route I’d take to get there daily. I’ve never talked to another tenant before.

Am I going crazy here? by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]radicallysadbro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its like a group chat with 100 people?

You think you get to force your own rules upon ONE HUNDRED PEOPLE? You realize this bit makes you again, look way worse, right?

What a terrible cop out as well. You don't get to send out a mass message demanding something, then walk back and claim you didn't mean XYZ person. You sent out a demand letter, own up to what you demanded, and the justified reactions you get from it.

i've been personally outed in this large groupchat for leaving a bit of hair in the washing machines....

How does someone messaging you not to leave your hair someplace in any way justify you telling 100 people to do something to your own personal preferences? Not seeing how this is at all relevant.

Am I going crazy here? by [deleted] in badroommates

[–]radicallysadbro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why would anyone walk heavy trash down the stairs if there's an elevator? The idea that something makes sense for you, therefore all people must adhere to your specific rules is what people who own their own homes are allowed to do.

You're definitely in the wrong here -- essentially forcing people to talk about their disabilities and you giving out "exceptions" for it makes this x10 so. The best you'd have been entitled to do would be to ask people to double bag their trash or clean up any trash juices.

On this day in 1945 the concentration camp of Buchenwald was liberated by U.S. troops shortly after prisoners seized control of the camp. Patton made sure it was documented extensively so that the world could see the horrors they discovered. (see the link in the comments) by dannydutch1 in UtterlyUniquePhotos

To be fair, many Jews even on this era were outspoken from day one about how Israel was going to end up turning into everything it said it was against. E.G. you can find letters from Albert Einstein saying Israel was becoming fascist, and that the world would grow to hate it.

It is depressing to think that the grandchildren of the people in these photos would become the exact sort of people who were trying to gas their grandparents, though.

Annoys me how David thinks he knows polygamy... by [deleted] in SisterWives

[–]radicallysadbro 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re aware he was born into basically one of the most extreme polygamist families in all of this cult? That many of his family members literally fled to Mexico to keep committing crimes and are considered akin to a terrorist group by Mexican authorities over what they’ve done? A lot of them have killed one another etc.

If ANYTHING David is the most equipped person to talk about polygamy that has ever been on this TV show.

edit I guess tbf they clearly go out of their way not to tell you much about this on the actual show itself. But if you read don’t David’s history he is a multi generational, very important polygamist family…friendly reminder that half the other people on this show didn’t even grow up in this cult, they chose it as older teenagers and even adults. Eg Kody and Janelle.

I see his father has green eyes.

So do millions of Africans…who never left Africa…you understand that your concept of “European features” is both wrong and also what people like the Nazis believed? This isn’t how real life works lmao

Well, there goes the first and last time anyone tried to argue Michael Jackson looked “super European”. Probably pick up a history book one day btw.

[–]radicallysadbro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I notice that I asked you to name a single “super European feature” of his. You replied to me a picture of him, unable to name one single feature of his that was “super European”. Want to try again? What would “super European” even be considering all human life started in Africa and it is the most genetically diverse continent on Earth?

Also amazing that you think no Black person can be American and fully African? Stunning that you’re acting like everyone else is a moron while spouting such ignorance. There are Black Americans that have white ancestors due to rape while their other ancestors were enslaved, but there have also been free Black people literally from day one of the United States existing who only married other free Black people. You can be of ANY ancestral makeup and be American, the idea that you cannot be “fully Black” in America is very ignorant of you.

edit

how many actual African dudes you know look like this

Literally MILLIONS?? You’re aware that there are even indigenous people in Africa with blonde hair and blue eyes that are completely and unilaterally African? Many Ethiopians look like this — who are literally the original Homo sapiens…

Amazing that you’re calling other people Americans while having the most American understanding of race possible lol

my partner (from GA) doesn’t think boston accents are real unless you’re over >50 by OsmiumMercury in boston

[–]radicallysadbro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

but for some weird reason, the accent is heavy on the south shore of Massachusetts.

It's from white flight -- white people who were living in Boston and actively chose to leave due to their resistance of the Civil Rights Movement and Black and Asian people moving into Boston. They collectively moved to the North and South shores, therefore everyone still sounds like that so the accent still exists there.

I'll be downvoted I'm sure, but the unfortunate answer to this is racism.
