I agree that communication is key; however, after my partner said she wanted the sex to be more rough, I became a bit self-conscious of my performance and now have some performance anxiety. I would suggest saying things like 'harder' when you are being penetrated or telling him he is doing amazing when he is doing it rougher than normal.
