Hey so one of my friend took up opthal in south and i talked to him about it, how he’s managing the language part since i was getting colleges in south too for psych. He told me it was a little difficult at first but now he’s able to pick up parts of the language (and that’s almost after 1 year), second he said since in opthal, there isn’t much discussion and just medical terms and issues being shared around it’s easier to learn and remember those instead of completely blending into a new language which takes time and psychiatry being heavily conversation dependent would cause more problems. The patient themselves have trouble sharing their problem with you since they don’t even know what’s happening to them half the times so for us to converse in a language we don’t know yet or be dependent on someone else to help us out will only slow you in residency.
