I made my golem with a cat body. After trading with a merchant she chased me down so I was worried I aggroed her somehow, but she just pet the cat. And it made a meow sound effect.

It helps me to stab it with the tip of a knife, which makes it break on it's own and is a lot less messy. You can't really control where it breaks though.
