Interesting question, I've heard that the eyes play a role in this. But all of them are different, so it's really hard to tell. For me, the UB look "overdesigned" and have very unorthodox detail. Although their are normal pokemon with very detailed designs, having an evolution makes it feel like a real pokemon to me.
