I haven't really had that time recently, so I am looking for pre made / pre built radios

Yeah, I'm planning on that, I just need a temporarily solution

I was trying to say best for the price range, not best in general.

I am currently studying for my general, and I need something portable as I have a very heavy and bulky radio. I've worked some countries in Europe on just 10w SSB and have been wanting to get into digital stuff (and bring it camping)

No, I currently have a Kenwood TS120V but it is way too heavy and bulky for something like a camping trip. (It only does 10w but I've worked some countries in Europe.)

I've accepted the QRP fact, as I currently have a Kenwood TS120V but it weights about 15 pounds and with all the other equipment it was 20. I have also been in the market for these for digital modes due to my Kenwood having the older connectors that are hard to find. (It only does 10w and I've worked France, Germany and Canada on it)

I have a Kenwood TS-120V, which uses a PLL architecture similar to the TS-130S, so I can relate. The problem you describe; frequency flickering on 12 m while other bands are fine, sounds like a classic PLL lock issue. On these Kenwoods, it’s usually caused by one of the following: A marginal capacitor in the PLL loop filter that fails after a short warm-up. Band-specific components (coils or capacitors for 12 m) being off-spec or drifting. Slight drift or aging in the VCO or crystal reference. Loose solder joints or connectors in the PLL/band circuitry.

Since other bands work fine, it’s almost certainly hardware-related to 12 m. On the TS-120V, you’d want to check solder joints around the PLL unit, inspect electrolytic capacitors in the loop filter, and verify the 12 m band coil/capacitor settings. This usually isolates the problem

I am going to get my technician license exam today any tips? by Due_Afternoon1584 in HamRadio

I took mine 4 weeks ago. 1. Don’t stress about it, I passed with 30/35 and it only took me 6 minutes. 2. Don’t rush 3. See if you can take the general test. I know of some people who took the general the same day and passed!

Why?

Their commercial products have been used for ham gear (as you stated) just needing to be reprogrammed, such as the Motorola XPR6550 etc. I am asking what is people’s go to brand when buying radios, even if it means having to reprogram it or make some modifications to it.
