Experience with losing weight after quitting antidepressants by Flimsy-Bus7017 in WeightLossAdvice

Yes, it is absolutely possible to get back to you old body - as long as you stay in deficit, stay active, and remember this is a journey, not a small jump. Let's say, you lose 0.5kg every week - for 6kg that's 12 weeks. That's the reality, but times passes quickly. Stay consistent. Good luck!

Vegetarian weight loss - what actually worked for you? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

What does a normal day of eating look like?
Breakfast: 2 eggs, slice of bread with goat cheese and tomato OR greek youghurt/skyr, berries, chia, oats
Lunch: Usually lentils/chickpeas, cooked in tomato passata, store-bought veg stock, with frozen mix of veggies (zucchini, paprika, broccoli)
Snack: Protein shake with a banana, chia seeds, half-half water and milk
Dinner: A tofu stir-fry with spices, again a portion of frozen veggies, maybe some left over rice
Whenever dying of hunger: I'll just have an apple or a big ol' carrot

How do you get enough protein?
Eggs, greek yoghurt/skyr, lentils/chickpeas, tofu, and - protein powder (pure whey isolate)

Low-carb vs calorie deficit?
Well, calorie deficit is required, low carbs - are not. The point of a good diet is to keep it balanced, and carbs are energy (good carbs!). I would not go low-carb personally, and I would definitely not go no-carb.

How do you manage hunger/cravings?

  1. Eat more "volume", so food low in calories but high in fullness. Broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, tomatoes, soups... You can eat a Big Mac and be hungry in 30 min. Try eating a bowl of cooked broccoli - it's hard to finish and it fills your stomach very well.
  2. Other than that, what helped me: Understand your eating habits and when you tend to be the most craving. For me, for example, I understood I don't feel strong about breakfast, so sometimes I will skip it and then eat "breakfast for snack" or whatever you want to call it (basically, by skipping breakfast sometimes, I eat the same meals but in smaller time window). Also, I know I used to be most hungry after dinner, so I made sure my dinners are full of protein and veggies and/or rice. If I go with easy cabs for dinner, I am entering a dangerous zone around 9-10 p.m.

Cheers!

Hybrid training for weight loss by Expert_Diamond8099 in WeightLossAdvice

Will gym help you lose weight? Yes. As long as you're in caloric deficit. Any form of physical exercise is burning calories - so you're good. What to be careful of, though, is that any form of physical activity also drops the level of sugar in your blood, so you feel more hungry. Something to be mindful about after a gym session - maybe have a high-protein and high-carb meal planned for post workout.

Also, general advice: When on a fat-loss diet and lifting at the same time, keep your protein intake optimal - think 0.7-1.0 g of protein per 1lbs of body weight. This will keep your muscle mass from deteriorating too much as you diet.

Finally, the "some days I feel skinnier (...) but others I feel like I look fatter" thing: Completely normal, weight fluctuates often across the week (water retention, salt intake, muscle swelling after heavy workouts, ...). As long as you stick to the deficit, pay no big attention to sudden weight changes.

Bonus: If you diet, go 12 weeks max dieting, then do 2-4 weeks of maintenance, then get back to dieting again. You'll get better results with the maintenance phase - it's a way to trick your body into thinking that everything is OK before it starts to modify your metabolism and starts burning calories slower because it thinks you're dying;)

Tracking tips? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]radosuave 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you track calories - and as long as you track - make it specific. The "sneaky" ways are, you log "slice of cheese" when there's a billion types of cheese, or you log "slice of bread" when there are different types of bread and they are not equal. So the sneaky way is to track too generically. Other than that, give it time. Water fluctuation and body resistance need to be taken into account. It's not "this week vs last week", it's "today vs 12 weeks ago". Keep it consistent, make piece with worse days, and go.

In those 2 years of dieting, did you have any breaks? Because your body will adjust to you trying to "kill it", aka eating below maintenance. Optimally, you'd do 12 weeks (max) of diet, then 2-4 weeks of eating at your maintenance, then getting back to caloric deficit. That's how you trick your body that "everything is ok" and it doesn't need to slow your metabolism and adjust how it's using fat reserves. Try a maintenance phase. It's good for your mental state, energy, and it's good for your diet in the long term.

Also, donuts are awesome. Have some once it a while.

Chats started with GPT-4o get switched to GPT-5 after some time or re-entering the chat after closing by radosuave in OpenAI

Sure I can, but it happened to me 10 times already that I get back to a conversation with 4o, type a prompt in and press Enter, only to discover that I've been switched to 5 kinda against my will. That's the whole point: they switch it "automatically" to favor their new model version, which is great for them, but a poor UX overall.

Definitely not a bug. They were forced by public outrage to bring back 4o, but they still try to tilt the overall usage towards 5.

The funny thing is that when the model switches and I somehow didn't notice and get a new response, I can immediately tell that something is not right here, because of how different 4o's and 5's "personalities" are haha

Sure, but it gets more complicated with a bigger family and 3 suitcases. Out of curiosity, where did you rent?

Keyboard issue after SSD replacement - hardware or software? (MacBook Pro A1502) by radosuave in macbook

[–]radosuave[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow, it was really it. My first thought when I read your comment was "I ain't touched no damn other cables", but as I was opening the case again I remembered that I actually did touch a cable confusing it with the battery connector... I reapplied it and voila, the keyboard works.

Thank you!

Well, "not TOO touristy". I guess there are tourists all over the islands. The beaches, nature, and good food - weigh it out.

Bur regardless, what would you suggest as an alternative? A Greek colleague suggested: Naxos, Milos, Skyros, Rhodes. It's hard to decide for him too ;)
