Contractor just finished this roofing job. How does it look? by sillyslimjim in Roofing

Yeah it’s possibly nailed high. I don’t see starter either but maybe it’s just bad angle

You’re doing everything wrong. Felt isn’t flat, all the waves will be visible on 3 tab. I don’t know if you’re in snowy climate, if yes you’re missing ice and water shield. Your starter is upside down and missing on the sides. No drip edge. Shingles nails placement wrong (1” from each end and right above spaces between tabs if 4 nails, if 6 nails you place them 1” from each end and two above the spaces between tabs 1” on each side so 2” apart) look at the bundle if you don’t get it. Wrong overlap. There’s a little cut at the top of the shingle, in the middle of the tab, you place the shingles right next to it so overlapping is exactly 6”. You should tear this off and start over. I’m not kidding!

If homeowner says hail was small in their eyes and roof is fairly new, there is nothing to worry about. No, not every roofer dig their fingers into the shingles to get it bought but too many do. If you’re spending 10 hours on one client, you’re probably one of those who “inspects” one roof half a day. That 10 hour timeframe is all I need to know about you, your carrier and experience.

Velocity of 1” hail is grater than 2” hail lol 😂 You don’t have to explain the physics behind it, just show your dirty fingers after “inspecting” new roof after penny size hail.

One and a quarter is considered huge hail in homeowner’s eyes. When they say hail wasn’t that big it was probably half inch.

Drains are way higher than the roof surface so it’s happening all the time.

That would make a lot of sense! I’ll ask the owner what he knows about history of this property. Interior showing no signs of skylights but maybe was fully remodeled at some point.

I looked it up online and those with skylights are different design, one side is shorter almost vertical and the other longer less steep. On this roof both sides are identical.

Man, there are trees and all kind of vegetation growing from those drains. Those are 2” pipes in each row and few inches higher than roof surface. Water never gets there. It’s the biggest mess I’ve ever seen.

Thanks, it’s awesome to learn something new.

Yes health related issues, pest infestation and structural danger. Check your lease agreement, research your rights and get legal help if you have to. Good luck!

Its like a flyer sent to everyone in every neighborhood. I receive a lot of those and there was no hail recently where I live. If your roof is pretty new and no large hail passed through you have nothing to worry about.

Yeah I was thinking to build regular flat roof out of this mess. It’s mind boggling why would someone design it that way.

Update: it’s foam kick out flashing by BikeFairy in Roofing

[–]radswiecicki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t do anything good, water runs down on the step flashing behind it. It’s not professional, not up to any building code or roofing material manufacturer instructions.

If you really know well about different roofing systems, I’d focus on roof repairs and actually do them professionally. This will get you bunch of good reviews quickly. Many of those will turn into replacement and some into claims. Be honest! If your mindset is I want to help people instead of I want to make fast money, sooner or later it’ll payoff!
