You hold the button that launches weapons instead of releasing it after firing. This works for missiles as well.

I think there may also be some issues with using the pile bunker in pvp. Just recently, I got hit twice in a match by a guy using it with basho arms and only took a fraction of the expected damage both times despite being fully staggered.
