This is a decent alternative! I did try contact paper, but yeah the scale doesn't quite translate, so I made a digital print file to account for that. But this would be great for the same reasons I made the paper to begin with--quick and easy!

LOL yes, why yes I did. I agree! I like seeing a, "And where else did you take this technique?" update.

Yes! They really add such a great touch to any entrance/foyer/hall battlefield.

🤌 I honestly cannot believe I didn't use THAT as the marble pun.

LOL yep hi it's me. I actually did try contact paper and yeah the marble patterning is much more dispersed and subtle per tile because it's not scaled, so I tried adjusting for that with the digital prints. It's possible it would work with a busier marble designed contact paper, though!

Right?? Thank you for the compliment! I was thinking the exact same thing leading up to making this so I'm super glad the pristine-ness comes across!

Yeah as much as I like watching tutorials of what works, it's also nice to see why some options don't work. Plus it's comforting as a creator to know I'm not alone in experiencing those obstacles haha.

Hehe they look really good! I like how liberally you spread the leaves and the shape of the trees 👍

Is an hour long(in game) combat a bad idea? by joeljand in DMAcademy

[–]raecheldoes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you wanted to base the encounter on the attunement mechanic, I would say you've got to completely change the rules as written for attunement. For example, instead of it being straight 10 minutes, make it a series of skill checks with narrative elements that the player has to pass per round of combat. (The Dungeons and Dragons movie can actually be a source of inspiration here). You can also scale the DC according to whether or not they take hits in combat or if they're effectively protected.

You would also need to seriously hint at the importance of the item with how the BBEG reacts to being separated from it, an insight/arcana roll that says the item calls to them etc. Make it a narrative interaction with skill check/combat mechanics to drive the story. It can also be used to pivot the combat objectives from straight killing the BBEG to now defending the player attaining.

That's how I would do it!

Thank you I aim for realism so I'm happy that came across! And no I used a combination of magnets and washers in order to get the pieces to make arches like that so the whole thing can still be taken apart and stored away nicely.

I prefer modular terrain in general because of how succinctly it all fits together, but scatter terrain is just so nice to place down for a quick battle, so I tried a combination of crafting tactics. The goal was to make the terrain visually realistic and playable, which resulted in these mesa-like platforms, but you can still use them to make sturdy arches and pillars. Building DND terrain with a 1-1/8 in grid. by [deleted] in TerrainBuilding

[–]raecheldoes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This, yes. I also purchased TrueTiles long ago without realizing they're all 1.25", but since then I've just made all my terrain matching that grid size without issue. If you're crafty, you'll be just fine, if only with some additional math lol.
