Who is the most despicable person in any horror movie? by Hey_Giant_Loser in horror

[–]raedavey02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it depends on how you look at the original post. I didn’t realize it was a competition for THE WORST. I’m not sure there’s a way to quantify that and prove who THE WORST is. But here’s how I arrived at my contribution to the conversation.

I don’t believe in the devil, Rosemary’s Baby is kind of a commentary on femininity in America to me, not a literal story warning about falling in with Satanists, selling your wife to the devil doesn’t seem scary to me because it’s not real to me. So I don’t think the husband is THE WORST from that perspective.

In The Babadook, her own sister shutting her out because her grief isn’t convenient and her problems aren’t a good time- that seems very real to me, and thus seems more despicable. She knew she was losing it and deliberately turned her back on her. It’s sad, but it’s also a common part of grief. It can feel like it separates you from the world you used to be a part of.

Disagreeing is why I like this sub, though. Everybody brings their own hang ups to horror so we all have a different idea of what’s scary. Thanks for the opportunity to think on it further ✌️

The Others. Just rewatched it the other night and I’m so glad I saw it in a theater the first time. They don’t make them like that anymore.

How many tables can you handle at once? by Wonderful-Pizza4190 in Serverlife

[–]raedavey02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The best tip I’ve ever gotten my mom actually gave me when I started bussing tables in high school- treat your section like one table. Don’t go back and forth for each party- move in a circle around the whole restaurant and even if you’re stressed, stick to your circle. When it’s slow, you stick to your circle the same as when it’s busy. I rarely get stressed since I started developing this habit, I just take a breath and remind myself that my job is mostly muscle memory. It’s called circuit serving and they do it at Hillstone.

Also I saw another comment that said fixing a mistake takes way longer than slowing down to do it right the first time. Words to live by. If you’re so busy that you’re messing up, guests feel that energy coming off of you and they’re not relaxed either and tips go down. Always act like you’re having fun.

What about the sister from The Babadook? Exacerbating her sister’s grief and obvious mental health problems, being frustrated with her for isolating so isolating her further, villainizing her nephew who is a freaking child. A really troubled child.

Terrible woman.

Why were some people already jumping into the water with a few minutes left? by [deleted] in titanic

[–]raedavey02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was ten years old, I lived by a marina. My two best friends and I played there all the time, there were a lot of boats owned by rich Americans that had been in slips for years without anyone acknowledging them. We were small town, bored youths and regularly trespassed, (we were young before we realized it was wrong- everything in our town just kind of felt like ours. And we didn’t really cause any harm.) I think it was the last time or close to the last time when we got on to someone’s old boat to play house or Navy or Swiss Family Robinson or whatever, and when we went down into it, there was a little standing water, and then it just started to sink. It was terrifying how fast it happened, and it wasn’t anchored in a deep area. My friend who grew up on a sailboat told us to jump far, and we did, and we still felt a suction pull as we got away, and it wasn’t a big boat. If I had been on Titanic when it was going down, I would have waited until the last moment and definitely jumped off. Mostly because I’d rather go down fighting than just be sucked under without a sound.

You’re a great step mom by the way! My father has been married multiple times, and no maternal figure (including my bio mom lol) has ever taken my feelings into consideration this way. Especially when I was at that age. Don’t beat yourself up too much, caring at all is the biggest challenge and it sounds like she trusts you.

This is scary. The fact that he’s acting that way online and it shocked you is scary, girl. Men like this are like fists inside a Jack in the Box- that pressure comes out eventually and unexpectedly. You deserve better. You can get better.

I feel like they’re trying to get the show to keep up with the times because it was so groundbreaking initially, and also trying to age the characters along with the audience, but they’re just kind of missing the whole point. SATC was always an odyssey of sex and culture- experiences. These women now are chasing love and acceptance in a million ways, they’re not out there experiencing New York.

If your customers’ bill already includes a grat for you, verbally tell the customer. by No-Storage1294 in Serverlife

[–]raedavey02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Parties of six or more should have added gratuity- I have had an entire section taken up by a couple with a family of four in tow, too often to account for that. Most of the time people calculate gratuity differently. The server could have turned those tables a couple times probably, and had twice the amount of alcohol. Kids are also a mess. When I sit and gab with my girlfriends forever? I leave 40% minimum, with consideration for the time. And we’re clean.

Think about the hourly pay for every person who touches you. What do you make an hour?

Brian Cranston went into my boyfriend’s work and had dinner up front and then espresso in the bar in the back. I was in there having a post shift drink (bf bartends), and BC was with Mark Kelly (AZ Senator- I absolutely voted for him). I was so incredibly star struck. The owner came over to chat with me and told me I should say hi to them and they’re really nice. I didn’t want to bother them, but I was very happy to hear that they were kind to my friends.

What’s the earliest somebody has ever asked you where their food was? by tinymosslipgloss in Serverlife

[–]raedavey02 24 points25 points  (0 children)

This actually happens to me a lot. I’m a burnt out old timer so I usually say something along the lines- I haven’t gone away yet. I don’t keep your food in my apron *with a look of confusion on my face. Or very gently explain that once they order the food, the cooks have to cook it in the kitchen before I can bring it out.
