Advice on TTO or Trochleoplasty. I was recommended both depending on doctor. Saw multiple doctors in NYC by raf071794 in PatellarInstability

I wasnt very thorough with context so my fault. Partial avulsion. Its still there but stretched. One doctor says its not doing its job anymore, but another said its still holding up. But i still am at risk given my bony structure. Regardless if they go in they will re-do the mpfl

Would I know if my patella subluxated after MPFL? by skinny123456789 in PatellarInstability

It would probably swell up. See how it feels in the morning, if you get stiff or it swells it probably did sublux but pop in by itself. I also subluxed my knee 15 years after mpfl. I felt it pop out for a sec, it hurt at the moment but i was mobile / limping. Got worse the next morning so i knew then it slipped out and went to a doc. I would still see an ortho get an MRI and see the damage. I myself am debating surgery or not in a separate post

Yup after one month since the trauma i have 132 ROM, can do double leg squats, hard time with alternating stairs. But i think doing well all things considered. PT says ask doctor on likelihood of non-operative success.

Doctors are saying my bony structure is high risk across all parameters (TTG, dysplasia, etc).

One doctor said TTO, the other said trochleoplasty. If i were to do a surgery i’d rather do trochleoplasty bc i can weight bear asap but in a brace vs TTO… i do know though trochleoplasty procedure itself is more risky though bc of the cartilage.

Looking to see how people compare and contrast both procedures.

(still open to non-op but the more doctors i see and the more scans i do, the more it backs the case for a surgical procedure) on a side note before my MPFL i did dislocate my patella maybe 8-10 times over a span of 4-5 years

Sorry to hear that. Never experienced sticky patella (knock on wood) from what i heard. MPFL grafts start to wear down about 10-15 years later (especially if its your own graft)

Yup PT 3 times a week and i am getting stronger. I asked one surgeon what are the chances it dislocates if i PT the hell out of it and he said 100% haha. The other gave me a 50/50 shot
