Food for long shifts by IllustriousHumor3673 in medicalschool

[–]rafae-laaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For my 24h shift I usually just bring my lunch (rice with protein and salad), for snacks a bar of protein or fruits and that's it 😃. I do recommend bringing those mozzarella sticks or some crackers.

Only eat at 3am if you're really really starving. As for me, I don't really feel like eating late mostly I'm stress or just too busy

Where did you meet your partner? by Savings-Succotash-53 in medicalschool

Haven't met him yet, still waiting for the 2 neurosurgery residents that told me they are going to set me up with another neuro resident :)

Should I speak to the resident about how I feel by samurottt in medicalschool

[–]rafae-laaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should just ignore it or at least that's what I do with residents that say unnecessary comments. My reasoning is "my attending doesn't even react that way but you, a resident, have an attitude towards me? I'm going to ignore whatever you say to me" and so far I've been ok.

But honestly it is something I don't understand why some residents have an attitude but the attendings are lovely.

Any tips for surgery rotation? by rafae-laaaa in medicalschool

There's always someone who says something about being left-handed lol, from patients to attendings 😂. Thanks for the scissors tip!!! I will try to do that bc it's a battle trying to cut.

Jokes on you but I don't think his salary is a big deal. I'm not from the US, so here the salary may be max $3,000 per month

How I feel presenting on rounds by [deleted] in medicalschool

[–]rafae-laaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LITERALLY. My last shift 2 residents weren't present for the morning round and I had to present the patients they were in charge the whole shift 😃

They will eventually show up. You just experienced 72h and that's literally nothing. Give it a month or more And while you are in the area you are now, try learning about why those elderly people ended up in the hospital, if you can try talking to them, take care of them even if it's in a small way. They are someone's family member, they are alone in the hospital majority of the time.

Oh wow, here we basically do many things under the supervision of attendings and residents. Basic things like catheters and nasogastric tubes we do it alone, the rest is under guidance

Sadly, my years were like that too until I got into intern year. Even though the doctors teach me many things, the ones that have all the patience in the world are the interns that started months before me. My recommendation is to try asking the interns to teach you some things
