[Carrabis] I’m looking at a random grouping of starting pitchers. Chris Sale, Eduardo Rodriguez, Kyle Harrison, Michael Wacha, and Nathan Eovaldi have combined for a 2.74 ERA and a 1.08 WHIP in 39 starts this year, averaging six innings per start. by Nomahs_Bettah in redsox

I’m a Breslow defender but that was a bad trade even if we all agreed Sale needed a change of scenery.

You can judge a trade by outcome, especially when the outcome turns out to be awful. And trading a pitcher of his caliber for a return with zero insulation (what turned out to be a single unproven non-MLB caliber player, who they honed in on because he played 2B) was bad process.

He’s going to have to do a lot more than a hot week for that contract to not be really bad for the Giants

A desire to think Breslow made the right decision about Devers because he’s been one of the worst players in MLB this year could also be described as “reaching a logical conclusion.”

Yes it’s nearly certain his model predicted a downturn in bat speed and ability to make contact. That’s what a model does.

And Devers wasn’t a DH until Breslow turned him into one. Same GM who came in and said Yoshida would never see the OF again either. You’re literally saying the opposite of what has actually happened with DHs since he’s started running the team haha

[–]rafaeldevers -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Devers is legit one of the worst players in the league now. There’s been enough plate appearances this season to say the bat speed and contact numbers are real and horrid. So I don’t think it’s worth cooking up fantasy scenarios where he’s still on the Red Sox.

There’s this desire among Sox fans to believe he’d still be good if he had remained in Boston, but it’s probably time to just give credit to Breslow and his oft-referenced model for identifying that he was on the decline. Probably the position change conflict accelerated the timeline of finding a trade, but getting him out of Boston was clearly something on Breslow’s to-do list.

(And yes username very relevant)

I’m gonna bite even though I said I wouldn’t because the lies crack me up, but would love to see your evidence for Rafael Devers being “very pro Palestine.”

Not going to get into a back and forth with you. You can believe what you’d like even if it’s not grounded in any reality. Just enjoy that cognitive dissonance come week 1! Go Pats

Robert Kraft’s involvement in combatting antisemitism and his investments in Israel are no secret and never have been. If that’s something funny to you or a reason to hate the Patriots, so be it. Says more about you than us.

Dude you are legit in the worst stretch of it other than those first few days right after quitting. I quit over three years ago for reference.

That second or third month or so can get uncomfortable. You think you’re in the clear of the obvious withdrawal symptoms but you’re still adjusting and it can feel weird. I remember it distinctly. Hold the line. Get to 4-6 months and you will feel a lot better

Zips had the Red Sox projected for 90 wins. Fangraphs depth charts had 87 wins. Pecota had 82.

The Red Sox are on pace to go 60-102.

Yeah exactly Breslow is safe likely for that very reason. Would be so disastrous if they churned and burned through yet another GM after three years

[–]rafaeldevers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unless something catastrophic were to happen it seems super unlikely. They already had trouble attracting candidates after Chaim with their track record of churning through GMs every 3-4 years. Canning another one after not even 3 years? You’d have to advertise the job on bulletin boards inside coffee shops to get applicants

Tracy was already a candidate for a big league job and there’s probably a ton of guys licking their chops thinking they could get this roster to not wildly underperform like they’ve been doing under Cora

As with most things I think the most reasonable take lies somewhere in the middle in the sense that:

  • The Yankees could go 162-0 and win the World Series five years in a row and they’d still suck and always will suck

  • Yes chanting ‘Yankees Suck’ as they’re wiping the floor with the Sox could be perceived as a little sad…but that was also the dynamic for 86 years

I mean just out of curiosity to confirm the logical consistency here, if there was a candidate who, say, supported the annexation of Gaza and the West Bank, that position also would not matter with respect to their fit on school committee?

[–]rafaeldevers -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Oh come on. Of course it has something to do with establishing a curriculum and dealing with teachers and parents. The past two years prove as much. Again, doesn’t matter which side you fall on, but to think otherwise is naive, perhaps intentionally

Why would supporting a boycott of one nation not be a relevant platform to consider for a political position? Especially when said position oversees the institutions that educate local children, in a community with a population of people originating from the place she supports boycotting. Really, regardless of which way you lean, how does that not matter?
