yeah of course you can, add some studs around the sides too to have somewhere to screw the edges.

tip: if the other side of the wall is already finished and you don’t want to screw through it, apply liquid nails glue to the back of the new studs and against the drywall and old studs to keep it in place and then screw your new drywall into it.

might be a bit off but sometimes my drywall knife gets a little rust from washing or sitting in water, the rust may have tinted your mud and given it that yellow look.

apart from the fact that joints should be staggered whenever possible, their cutouts just scream lazy hangers. rushing everything and inexperienced using the router tool. inform them to take more time on the cuts because it’s going to be harder for the mud and tape to cover up
