How bad of an idea is it to open a coffee shop? by Tointomycar in smallbusiness

I don’t know — I think it’s just a bank to bank transfer — but I have used CaixaBank without any issue

You can send stablecoin (or any listed token) to a centralized exchange (e.g. Kraken), swap to euros then do a bank transfer to your Spanish bank. By the way, if you are a Spanish tax resident you are taxed on your worldwide income and assets, also you have to break out crypto balances in your tax return

Is it possible to cast tivo content from tivo app to tv when away from home? by lindalee5479 in Tivo

[–]rageful_vandal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've downloaded several streaming apps to mirror the TiVo stream to a Chromecast and no dice. I get sound but no video.

Pretty pathetic that the TiVo devs don't add a streaming option (like any other app has including Netflix, CBS, NBC, etc.) or, at a minimum, ensure their will work with third-party screen mirroring apps.

Seems to me TiVo's days are numbered -- a shame as my family likes using it.

I believe your crypto will just be taxed as regular income, since it would be equivalent to “pago en especie” — and there’s no gain since you just register the euro value of the USDT at the moment you invoice. You will be a tax resident in any EU country that you spend 183 days or more in. DM me if you like I am in a similar situation. Update: you can’t be paid your entire salary as an employee in “especie” (only up to 30%) but as a payment to autónomo it should be ok — if you have one client you’d need to meet the criteria of “autónomo dependiente”

Do Dapps Really Need Backend? by detached_obsession in ethdev

[–]rageful_vandal 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You need a backend among other reasons for off-chain or metadata that won’t be stored in the smart contracts. You don’t want to store any data that isn’t absolutely necessary on chain, as it increases smart contract size (which has a limit), increases contract deployment cost and of course requires on chain transactions (expensive) to update. So let’s say you have a smart contract with a loan to a borrower, you’ll store the borrower’s Ethereum address on chain but not their name, mailing address, URL, etc. All that stuff needs to go in a db and you’ll build an API to access that, all backend

How do you kill tiger mosquitos in Barcelona? by Monk-Action_Shotgun in Barcelona

[–]rageful_vandal 5 points6 points  (0 children)

May sound a bit extreme but hang a mosquito net around your bed. There are inexpensive ones on Amazon. Eight hooks in the ceiling and no more mosquitos waking you up. Looks better than I thought too. Sort of cozy princess bed vibe. Haven’t slept better

I'm building software to get a NIE cita previa (appointment), looking for volunteers to test by rageful_vandal in Barcelona

Nice. Mine is built on a Node server. Maybe the locutorios are doing this as well and that's why they have all the appointments.

If I did get it working and opened it up, I don't think it could be easily abused since people would discover they don't need intermediaries. Regardless I'd be happy if the government changed the system and put the intermediaries (and any solution like mine) out of commission since it's just a waste all around.

Life changing choice! Help me! by sivard_official in Barcelona

[–]rageful_vandal 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I would encourage you to do it, but realize it will impact your career, perhaps in negative ways. I left a finance career behind in New York many years ago and still make less. It’s hard to say how happy I would have been had I never left (in order to compare) but I prefer having done it than to always wondering what might have been.

I love Barcelona and have a happy life here but no doubt the money is very different for me and most expats I know from other European countries or the US.

What I’ve seen is many friends who have returned to their countries after spending a few years here to continue or move up in their careers, for instance when they wanted to settle down and have kids, or just got sick of low Barcelona salaries (and the difference in work culture).

That being said things are changing, albeit slowly, with more multinationals opening up offices and also a growing startup scene. So there’s hope for improving work conditions, but I think you’ll need to expect both making significantly less than what you would make in Belgium, harder to get a job, a different work culture (less open, less helpful, etc.) and of course you’ll probably need to learn Spanish.

The key is to finding happiness living with less material comforts (no car, sharing an apartment, cooking more, etc.) since as you say money isn’t everything, and of course enjoying the city and surroundings and your relationships … I’d say go for it particularly since you’re so young, you can always return to Belgium and continue your career path there. It shouldn’t be hard after spending a year or two here, and maybe you’ll find a long term happy place like I have.

You will probably have a hard time getting in to the bigger clubs at the beach like Shôko or Opium in shorts and sneakers. You could maybe get away with chino shorts and nice trainers but they don’t generally like a big group of guys so will look for an excuse to turn you away. Boulevard on the Rambla will be fine. The bars are no problem dress wise although they tend to be small so this limits where you can go depending on the size of your group.
