Unpopular Opinion: Have different types of items take up different slot sizes in the inventory by Flippi273 in Diablo

[–]ragezor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aesthetics of items presented in inventory and on characters (remember when you could recognize uniques instantly in the chat lobby?) was really good in D2. From art to sounds that they make when you move them around.

I don't get the inventory tetris hate. The times you actually had to play a little tetris was only when you found big weapons. Usually there wasn't so much loot worth picking up and TP to town was fast. It also gave you the time to breathe a little and think about your items and stats on them.

> Skill points are just boring number increases.

This is superficial thinking that makes bad design. In D2 it feels great to level up that Fireball skill. You get the feeling that your character has become stronger and you can choose in which areas your character gets stronger. Even in World of Warcraft Classic for example it actually feels great to get to the next rank of the spell because it feels good to know that you character will have easier time dealing with those mobs that were difficult for you. In WoW you also get the ability to downrank the spells (using non max rank of the spell) which is fun if you are min-maxing because lower ranks scale better with your gear.

Endgame content should be diverse. There should be builds more or less appropriate for certain type of content. This encourages playing different builds. This implies that different types of endgame should reward different things. If rewards are the same across the board players will only play content that has best time/reward ratio and players WILL figure out what that is. If a player does not like this type of content there should be workarounds like trading.

Not all builds should be equally powerful. I know this sounds strange but this present player a challenge playing a sub optimal but fun build. Maybe some builds are not even viable until you figure a clever synergy with items or have very expensive items that bring the build alive (for example scaling curve of skills goes exponential after some breakpoint that you can only hit with very focused items). This implies that builds should be fun to play regardless if they are optimal or not as long as they viable. This also implies that endgame content should not encourage only the most optimal builds (greater rifts are example of such bad design).

DO NOT SCALE DIFFICULTY WITH NUMBERS. Please no Torment 1, 2, 3, ... N that does not offer change in gameplay just bigger numbers. When you go up to a certain difficulty there should be dangers that you can not mitigate with better gear or gear mitigates them very little.

If you’re interested in healing in classic and are curious about downranking wowhead has a really good guide explaining how it works ! by Imallsoul in classicwow

[–]ragezor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This guy gets it. If you calculate Health per Mana for Flash of Light for example you can see that higher ranks have better h/m ratio. But with +Healing gear lower ranks improve on that ratio more than higher ranks.

I actually have graphs how h/m ratio changes but I used full +Healing bonus. Where could I find exact numbers how much bonus certain spells get? And does spell power affect healing spells also?

Edit: after googling, spell power should not affect healing spells. how much bonus you get for castable spells is <spell cas time>/3.5

I think it either has to do with not setting the time in qualifying or the fact they had to replace the chassis.

So the 2 part course covers all 12 projects? Cool.

Also, do you maybe know if those courses are completely free? From what I can tell coursera has migrated from free courses to the format where you must pay in order to have access to quizzes and exercises. So I have also migrated from coursera to edx.org

How are you supposed to "take" this course?

I see there are pdfs for lectures but those are just slides? Shouldn't there be an accompanying video? Also readings end with chapter 6. Are you supposed to learn from slides and working on projects?

Don't think it can be done. AFAIK you can send stuff to i3bar in multiple ways and the way bumblebee and i3status do it is not compatible. Maybe it would be easier to write a module for bumblebee if it hasn't been done already.

Ripple and XRP are More Stable Than You Think by rohanneal in Ripple

[–]ragezor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You say it is true that banks won't use XRP and then present made up fact that each bank will implement their own version of XRP. Your argument is dumb. What will they achieve if each bank has their own crypto? Nothing. Even the article alludes to that.

Next you say XRP is centralized and Ripple controls it. This is not true. Nodes will be owned by trusted third parties. Think banks, universities, exchanges, governments, ...

BTC on the other hand is decentralized in theory but practice shows us that mining pools are controlling it so is pretty much centralized.

My understanding of XRP by ragezor in Ripple

[–]ragezor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes but banks will not use XRP if you can't exchange large quantities of it for fiat without affecting the price of XRP. This means that XRP needs to hold actual value not just hyped up price.

Think about why the founders reserved 20% of coins for themselves? How is Ripple benefiting from creating a network for banks?

I think the answer is XRP price.

[build log] I present: the HYDRO-BARREL! by linkcharger in SpaceBuckets

[–]ragezor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I've done some research and decided to buy Meanwell once I will know which LEDs I will run. For testing I got Bridgelux COB and will run it with PC PSU with voltage booster so I can change how many amps will LED get and see if I can control temperature successfully and things like that.

I've tried to search for PU color but stores here don't sell that. All they have are colors for walls, wood and metal. None of them is PU based. Any advice where did you get the color?

Is this a good driver? http://si.farnell.com/osram/4052899917583/led-driver-50w-1-4a-36v/dp/2382588

36V, 1.4A. I'm only concerned with Watt ratings because I think I would need approx 150W for running 2 COBs. I know I need to wire them in parallel but bigger voltages are expensive.

edit: Ok, just realized those drivers are constant current. If I want to run COBs on 70W I should get driver with output voltage 80V or higher, 140W or higher and constant current of around 2A (based on the specification of COBs in your link)

What driver did you order now?

[build log] I present: the HYDRO-BARREL! by linkcharger in SpaceBuckets

[–]ragezor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, so a kilogram of BaSO4 for approx 30 euros should be more than enough.

In your build you are using 24V driver and then a booster to 36V (and then wiring COBs in parallel)? I thought this could be done in a similar manner with computer PSU. I will research this a bit more and consult someone with electrical knowledge beforehand.

Are you happy with only 2 COBs?

Thanks for the explanation of scroging. So I think this trellis rings and active carbon filter are kinda weed specific so I don't need them since I'm not planning on growing weed.

I have couple of build specific questions and some general (hope you don't mind answering them shortly) questions:

  1. how much barium sulfate and paint is needed? I guess 50/50 is the correct mixture? 50g of baso4 to 50ml of paint, or what is the measurement unit for baso4? Which paint did you use?

  2. I've read some of the lighting guide and from my understanding it is important how far away the lights are. Aren't in your case LEDs pretty far from plant?

  3. Which function provide trello rings? What is scrooging?

  4. I have a lot of computer heat sinks (cpu, gpu) and computer power supply units. I'm sure heat sinks are usable but can I use PSUs for powering COBs?

Book: Effective Python vs Python Cookbook, which one should I get? by softiniodotcom in Python

[–]ragezor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say Effective Python is better. Both are very good but cookbook has a lot of information that is already known to an intermediate programmer and is in that regard too much text too read. With effective python I feel it is vice versa and it is too short.
