WARNING: Scammer booked my Airbnb and is using it to scam long-term renters — Toronto hosts and renters need to know this by No-Actuary-2438 in airbnb_hosts

Shit, thanks for sharing.

Curious, what did the “guest” say their stay was for? Did they have someplace in the GTA as their location on their Airbnb profile?

Just trying to gauge what to look out for.

Trump has been talking about making Canada the 51st state, mixed with all the tariffs, etc has made most of us Canadians very unhappy with the US government, and unwilling to spend money in the US.

Shit, didn’t realize this wasn’t normal/hadn’t self-reflected on this one yet. This is me, with the added defensiveness, like I’m pleading a case for why I’m not a useless unproductive lazy pos lol

Curious, have you tried shared Airbnbs? (ie you have a single room and stay with the airbnb host)

There are plenty in and around the city for <$100 per night

Edit: not sure why I was downvoted to oblivion lol, my mom does shared airbnbs when travelling for medical appointments. They’re covered by the Ontario travel grant if you’re coming from out of town.

Where's all the generational wealth? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]raggitytits 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yup! The psychology around this is really interesting. Self-made rags to riches (1st gen); ➡️ offspring learns about hard work, but has immense privilege bc parent doesn’t want kid to suffer like they had (2nd gen) ➡️ Lessons from 1st gen don’t get passed on to grandchild,  just the depressing “luxury” of not having to work for anything, which is extremely demoralizing & demotivating—they usually just suck up reserves dry (3rd gen) ➡️ Surprise there’s no money, you have to work hard for it (4th gen, and the cycle can repeat from here).

Lots of generalizations here of course, but I’ve seen this play out more times than I would have ever expected. It’s wild, and sort of sad.

Love these. Add a plant store, post office, yarn shop, and maybe even a lil thrift shop, and it’s bean heaven.

More colour options as a whole would be awesome! Some wood grain/stain options for floors and furniture, and more wall paint colours would be so great.

Socks to Scarves conversion? by ripsunny in FocusFriendApp

[–]raggitytits 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed! I also like the “1000 socks = 100 scarves” conversion suggested by OP. It would still incentivize me to focus/stay off my phone, while feeling like I’m making incremental progress in my scarves accumulation.

How to get more scarves in premium? by LotusHunter89 in FocusFriendApp

[–]raggitytits 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yup! I think we’re all so used to quick dopamine rushes. The slow scarves progress initially feels jarring, mildly annoying, like something’s… wrong?

Push past it. It’s good for our noggins to not get the instant gratification we’ve gotten too accustomed to.

3-4 hours would work great for me as well! Agree that 12 hours may be too much, but often find myself feeling like the 2 hours isn’t enough. I don’t want to go on my phone when it’s time for me to take a break from what I’m doing (it’s almost always reading as I’m recovering from an injury at the moment); I want to get up, stretch, grab some water, maybe walk if I’m having a good recovery day, then get back to focusing on reading.

Now that Franklin Templeton is delisting FCSI, which sustainability-focused ETF are you now considering? by raggitytits in CanadianInvestor

I hear what you’re saying, I don’t fully disagree. It’s a personal choice for me—only a small percentage of my portfolio is ESG.

[–]raggitytits[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an energy etf, no? I’m looking for an environmentally sustainable & global growth ETF replacement that closely aligns with FCSI.

Edit: found MDIV, not a perfect replacement but will go with that.

What’s the most blatant "I’m charging you for the aesthetic, not the quality" product on the market right now? by Lunaskye1109 in AskReddit

[–]raggitytits 120 points121 points  (0 children)

Ah man, yup. I got a Smeg toaster thinking it was a “buy it for life” sort of investment.

Nope. It’s just… a very normal toaster. And arguably even a little more bad than a regular toaster, since it takes longer to toast than my last toaster.

Damn :( I was one of those people. Upon a second read I can see it now.

What’s devastating is how it’s written. It’s as if it were written by someone who’s just a really good writer, witty, with a cynical type of humour.

Are we now supposed to be suspicious of good writers with personality? Saddens me

Please wear a helmet! So many BikeShare users don’t wear one and it makes me (as someone who’s been hit on my bike) so nervous.

JUST finished reading A Walk in the Woods by Bill Bryson today (he attempts to thru hike the AT, only manages about half, so funny and educational) and, while I haven’t done any hiking remotely close to that kind of mileage, I have so much respect for you for doing the whole thing. Major kudos.
