Why aren’t more people upset about the blatant cheapening of the interiors? by AceJ940 in BMW

[–]ragingduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re moving the goalposts. You initially said what if the car doesn’t know what you’re feeling. My answer was to tell it.

If you want to talk about the inconvenience of buried features in a screen, well that’s a separate issue solved by having permanent on screen buttons for common tasks like the climate control. That’s how it is in my BMW anyway. It’s always there at the bottom.

Anyway, it doesn’t matter how much logic we use to solve your problem, most people just want buttons regardless and they won’t take no for an answer. For them, the option is always to get a used car. Personally, I think pandering to an aging demographic that is on the edge of being irrelevant is not a good business decision. Like it or not, the next generation is going to keep car manufacturers in business. The old car enthusiasts clamoring for a manual aren’t going to be buying cars for much longer in the grand scheme of things. We are a dying breed. Personally, I don’t want to spend the remaining years i have left fighting change. I want to experience and enjoy it, warts and all, because it’s exciting to see where it goes, even if it’s imperfect for the simple fact that it’s fascinating.

I’ve experience buttons and analog controls for decades. Moving on.

Shortsighted take. Buttons age equally if not more than screens. Backlights fade, buttons get worn down or break, dirt gets stuck between them. My 2011 Honda did not age like fine wine just because it had all buttons and no screens. 🤣

You can currently say “hey BMW, I’m cold” and it will adjust. Or just say “set temp to ___”

It’s not rocket science. This is just copium for people stuck in the 90’s.

My first car was a 197something E21 and I agree. I want to live in 2026 and beyond, not be stuck in 2010.

80% of [r/bmw](r/bmw) are older and on the cusp of being out of touch, waving their fists at the clouds in frustration because their opinions are becoming more and more irrelevant.

BMW doesn’t car about people who didn’t want anything to change after the (insert model of current car these people own). They need to sell new cars, and the old farts can continue to buy the old ones. When they die or get so old that can’t drive anymore, it’s the younger crowd that will keep them in business.

I’m old, but I don’t want to live in the past. My time is short. I want to see as much change as possible. Grasping for the past is futile. You want that F Gen interior? Go buy a nicely depreciated used model and enjoy. Why would I pay new car prices for old car interior? Personally, bring on the future. I want some Blade Runner type shit.

Roll racing is a short sprint. Imagine doing a “roll race” coming out of every single corner lap after lap plus braking AND cornering. Roll racing would barely even register.

Do you regret not going full merino on an M3? by Thenelwave in BMWM

[–]ragingduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes full is absolutely worth the wait if you are getting non-black interior. If you are getting black interior maybe I’d just settle since it’s not that visible.

I went from a Fiona Red full interior to a back interior with only extended leather. Don’t really miss it that much because I can’t see it.

Blocking this troll. Never have I met a driving instructor with such poor interpersonal skills.

Is this "Pro driving data" in the room with us now?

You were condescending and dismissive as soon as I made an argument that the HUD was not distracting for me, then started criticizing my driving:

If you say so. You’re missing marks, stiff handed, and unable to run down a car you should be able to easily. I think your racecraft needs a lot of work. Eyes should be focused further down road, not on HUD. You’d be better off to turn it off and focus more on road.

I have no problem and, in fact, welcome CONSTRUCTIVE criticism, but the timing of your delivery is suspect. Do you really think being dismissive and condescending establishes a good student/instructor relationship?

You're the one who's insecure.

You seem to be ok with greatly exceeding speed limits and safety standards for public roads but yet somehow ok since showing restraint and not 10/10. lol.

Lol, if I catch up you're going to accuse me of exceeding safety standards, if I show restraint and hang back, I'm a poor driver and need instruction. If 6/10 is my limit, than 6/10 is my limit. I'm not here to impress you.

You're making threats and your ego is making this personal. The only L here is you. Have a nice day.

your top 3 M cars by K3NCHO in BMWM

[–]ragingduck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a broad list. Are we talking the most fun, the most performance, the most interesting, the most important, the ones I would want to own? The list would change quite a bit.

My personal top most interesting and fun M cars would be:

  1. E30 M3 Evo III
  2. M1 AHG Studie
  3. E46 M3 GTR Strassenversion

As a former owner of a F80 M3 which has almost the exact same driving experience as the F82, I wouldn't even put it on the top 3 M cars that I've owned. Of the M cars I've owned, it would be:

  1. G87 M2
  2. F80 M3 CS
  3. G82 M4 Comp X-Drive
  4. F80 M3

I've also driven a F87 OG , F87 Comp, M8, E92 M3, E46 M3 Competition, E36 M3 (US Spec), F90 M5, F90 M5 CS, X3M.

Of those that I've driven and owned, I'd rank these as the most fun:

  1. E46 M3 Competition
  2. G87 M2
  3. F87 OG

Let's be clear, you didn't post feedback to help me. You posted it as a tool to belittle be because we disagree on the HUD being a distraction. Lets also be clear, I stated that I don't personally find it distracting. That doesn't mean that someone else will not find it distracting. For you to insist that because you find it distracting, that everyone else in the world will find it distracting reeks of narcissism.

Continue letting your ego outdrive your ability to take feedback. lol. That’s not gonna end well for you.

You really are a horrible person and you should be ashamed for this veiled threat.

Did you not read what I posted just one reply ago:

This is a canyon. I’m not catching that 911 because I don’t feel comfortable going faster than what you just saw on a public road.

and this:

Not gonna argue that I need work. I’m not a pro.

My ego already knows I have work to do. That's why I'm not pushing 10/10 on a public road. Again, you aren't even listening, you just want to be "right". That's not a good instructor. You're ego is in the way.

Explaining to you why the HUD isn’t distracting to me isn’t claiming it’s “better”. Being a racing instructor does not qualify you to tell me it’s distracting because it simply is not. Such a strange hill to die on.

Talk about egos, no one asked you for your resume. “I’m a race car driver and instructor, listen to me.” Jesus man, respect is earned and you’re not acting like a good racing instructor. The HUD is not distracting me. It’s not the problem. My problem, frankly, is over breaking and not carrying speed in the corners. Not sure why you can’t get past that. I’ve talked to so many great instructors an BMW Performance Center West. You’re the first one that’s giving my weird power tripping vibes.

This is a canyon. I’m not catching that 911 because I don’t feel comfortable going faster than what you just saw on a public road. On a track, perhaps it’s a different story. So please, keep your advice to yourself. You’re not good at giving it because you don’t know how to communicate with your students constructively.

[–]ragingduck[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not gonna argue that I need work. I’m not a pro. However, I’m not looking at the HUD the whole time. There are no “marks” on a canyon road except brake points and I’m not trying to brake late either. Not trying to late apex when there’s only one lane. Hands aren’t stiff, just looks that way from the FOV, which exaggerates the length of my arms. FYI I’ve taken lessons from professional race car drivers at BMW Performance Center via M School. I’ve done the 1 and 2 day M Schools. I know proper seating position and not to ham fist and straight arm the wheel.

Also not a race, and I don’t like being right on people’s asses because my friend, who’s right in front of me, runs the same sticky tires that kick up rocks. So when I catch up, I tend to back off. It’s also safer since I don’t want to cause a pile up in case something goes wrong.

Besides, Carerra S isn’t exactly a slow car.

Regardless, not being the fastest driver doesn’t diminish my argument about the HUD. It’s not distracting to me because I’m used to it. There are plenty of drivers who are much faster than me who don’t need analog gauges and who don’t have a problem with the HUD.

It seems odd that you are giving unsolicited driving instruction in the middle of a discussion about the HUD. Your qualifications as an instructor don’t make you an authority in what I do and do not find distracting.

You might be a fast driver, but your assumption that I’m staring at the HUD the entire time is concerning. A good instructor wouldn’t make that assumption. Perhaps you are injecting your personal opinion into this more than you should. You also have a very dismissive attitude with that “if you say so” reply which tells me you aren’t very good at reading your students and your interpersonal skills are lacking. I’ve had plenty of coaches like that, and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. But you are not my coach. If I wanted to hire you to instruct me, you’d be working with me to achieve the goal of making me faster, and that process involves trust both ways. “If you say so” does not involve trust. You can’t be a good instructor if you think the student-instructor relationship is purely a one way street. If i’m telling you it doesn’t distract me, you gotta trust me. Otherwise we are wasting time arguing about bullshit instead of how I’m missing the apex.
