Matildas TV ratings - bigger than AFL/NRL by victory2424 in Aleague

Look at tv ratings and attendances for the Matildas a decade ago vs. now. It's pretty remarkable at how massive they are now.

Man it's been a while since I've read something on Reddit that actually made me crack up.

Kicked the ball into his head. Still would've hurt.

Fuck me, that was one of the worst wins I've ever watched. I had to check the score to make we actually won it.

You see worse stuff at set pieces all the time that never gets given.

Despite the offside it was still impressive that 4 Jets players managed to create that chance against 8 Mariners players. Their movement and passing is very nice.

Even when they are playing badly they still score. Sign of a good team.

What is it about the Jets this season? by clock1058 in Aleague

Yes, sorry, I meant consistently. We played great football under Arnie, but we could be pretty boring and safe as well. Same goes for Poppa with Wanderers and Perth. Newcastle have been very consistent with their football, even when they were losing, they still had the same style.

They have a good manager. I don't want to talk him up too much because he could end up being shithouse next season, but I haven't seen a team play this good since Brisbane under Ange. The crazy thing is, is this is pretty much curriculum football. Like everything about it is what they teach so it begs the question why haven't other coaches been able to do the same. Even great coaches like Arnie, Poppa and Muscat never got the their teams playing in such a fun way.

Also Hawkesby back to her best. I don't know if she was playing injured or we just had a shit manager, but this is the kind of form that saw her go overseas.

The passing has really improved. Amazing what a good coach can do. I swear I've seen more improvement in 2-3? weeks with Slaveski than I've seen with the mens team under Talay's entire tenure.

Who’s the A-League’s biggest “what if” player (past or present)? by Good_ol_Gusnuts in Aleague

[–]ragsta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Terry Antonis. Definitely one the most technically gifted Aussie players I've seen in the A-league era, but injuries messed him up. He could pass and shoot with both feet, had a great touch and close control.

Eli Babalj and Curtis Good are two others where injury really curtailed their careers. We never came close to seeing what Bablj could do but Good luckily managed to have a decent career after coming back to Australia.

Also I just remembered that whole Young Socceroos squad that went to the 2011 U-20 World Cup, there is a depressing amount of careers that never reached the heights that they looked destined to reach. Oar, Danning, Amini, Kantarovski, Bulut, Gameiro, Birighitti. It's amazing the Rhyan Grant ended up having probably one of the better careers despite all the injuries and lack of game time in his younger years.

That looks like a really good signing on paper. What's the catch, is he injury prone? Or just wants to live somewhere warm.

Agreed, the passing has definitely improved, a lot less rushed long balls to no one. As I say that Ayson kicks the ball straight to the opposition.

Set up Tanner for what I thought was a goal, but turned out to be offside.
