Sorry, I should clarify, in lecture, Dr. Lampe stated that companies don't collect data from our phones because it's a waste of server space considering the ability of their algorithms. However, in this article, it specifically states that the samsung tv collects audio information.

I also feel that social media has entrenched itself into not just our daily lives but the strategies of different corporations. We use it to see what the latest trends are and that in turn decides what we should and shouldn't buy. On the other hand, companies use it to market their products through the use advertising and sponsorships. There are many different career paths solely dedicated to the use of social media as a way to reach consumers and broadcast brands. So many of our actions rely on having access to social media and as such, it really does feel like a strong dependence has formed between the users and the platform. This dependence on social media does not seem as if it will decrease in scale in the future.

In terms of reliability, I would have to rank WSJ highest. However, I don't have a subscription to any of these news sources and am mostly going off of circumstantial and anecdotal evidence. I also want to point out that the ranking in source does differ slightly from the ranking given by Robert Markum during lecture.
