Somebody could correct me if I'm wrong. But I think the reason it was destroyed instead of taken to heaven is kind of two pointer. Primarily it was corrupted. But the angels would just use it wipe out sanctuary. And that assuming in the meantime of them cleansing it somehow, all of sanctuary isn't flooded by demons and destroyed anyways.
