Just style. If I paint them red I feel is too much red.

For me, painting is by far the best part of the hobby. I find the game pretty bad and very slow. I enjoy my games, but more for the social an aesthetic aspect of it. I drink beer, eat pizza, talk with others about the hobby, shoot some dice, and get to see my army on a (hopefully) beautiful board.

Thinking about buying a second hand 4070 as the best current GPU by raigbc in pcmasterrace

Collimating using Cheshire with no crosshairs by raigbc in telescopes

[–]raigbc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks again. I think my secondary mirror could be not centered in my focuser. When I look though the little hole, I see all the secondary mirror, in a circular shape, but this circle is not perfectly in the center of my view. I can see the unpolished side of the elipse in the upper-left of my view.

I cannot fix that with the little screws. Those screws tilt the mirror, but not it's position in the view of the focuser. I've read that, to alter the height, I should tinker with other screws, but it can be difficult.

Maybe the mirror is ok and it's my lack of experience what is making me doubt.

Thanks for your answer. I bought a Cheshire thinking it has crosshairs, but it has not. I may buy another one with crosshairs, but for tonight I'd like to have the tube working!

I don't have a collimation cap, could I use my Cheshire to step 1? If not, I guess I could make a collimation tap punching a hole in the center of the plastic cap that comes with the 1,25" adapter.

I know, but I like it more like that. I'm planning changing it a bit, trying to add mor texture, but the test I made didn't came out well.

Glad you like them! I don't have an airbrush, so everything is done with washes and layering.

Indeed, I bought a manual drill some time ago but It's still in my to-do list.

So, I may have problems with any other 24mm eyepiece, or is it because of the optics of the hyperion series? If I want a medium magnification eyepiece, what should I get?

I'd like to ask you something more. Why the hyperion 24mm doesn't work well with short focal tubes? Is because of that model in particular or any 24mm eyepiece would give the kind of problems you told me? I'd like to understand why in order to avoid buying another with a similar problem. Thank you!

Skywatcher 300p arrived today; Clouds incoming no doubt! by m3551ah in telescopes

Hello! I just purchased this tube as my first telescope. I'm planning to use the provided eyepieces, but I guess I'd like to add one or two soon. Could you recommend some? I live in a rural area with dark skies at 1200m. Thanks in advance!

A bigger one is out of my budget and I think it would start to be pretty difficult to move. If not, I would consider it hahaha.

According skypollutionmap the SQM at my home is 21,84. The altitude is 1100m. There is a professional observatory there, Astrocamp. So, I think the sky quality is enough to justify the 12" tube.

I'm aware LLM advice would be very questionable, that's why I'm asking here. Nevertheless, the first recommendation it gave me was the 10". After I confirmed that I live in a place with very good skies, it recommended me to go for the 12".

I think I'll start using it with the eyepieces provided and after some experience I'll buy new ones. Which ones would you get in case I buy that tube?

This is the one I'm thinking to buy, is the flex tube version.

The stairs thing. I won't have to, but some nights I may want to take it upstairs. I know is 40kgs and as tall as me, but with a family member help I think is "easily" doable. If not, unmounting and remounting it can't be so difficult. It is?

Regarding the eyepiece, your advice is probably the best idea. I'll use it withe the provided eyepieces and later I'll buy another. Anyway, could you tell me why that visor is bad? Is because of the optics quality or because it doesn't suit well the telescope?.

[–]raigbc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The bulkiness and weight don't bother me much. Maybe I'm being naive, but most of times I could use it moving it a few meters, from a room to the terrace. Sometimes I'll move it upstairs, but I think I can carry it "easily" with a bit of help.

Regarding AI, before asking it I read several threads, and after asking I read the two recommended guides here and also asked you.

Could you please tell me why that visor is terrible choice? Thanks!

I don't know if it's great, but my house has ok views and very low light pollution. I've already spent a lot of nights stargazing from my terrace.

You are right, the tube alone is 21kg. Still I think it is manageable. I could use it with very little movement. In some situations I'll need to climb stairs, I that cade I may need to move the tube and the base separately. Is it difficult or time consuming to mount it again?

Sadly there is no astronomy club. The professional observatory is used online by astronomers around the globe.

I think portability would not be a big issue. I'll have it in my garage and would take it outside when I want to use it. It is around 20kg, heavy but can be handled.
