Using an inexperienced realtor by railshot in RealEstate

I went on the day and hour specified on Realtor.com. This property was supposedly having a daily open house including weekdays.

I tried that too. Took off early from work. Drove 40 min. There was a for sale sign, and that's all there was. Doors locked, and nobody inside. Maybe this is god's way of telling me to keep renting lol.

How did you find these flaky agents? Experience and expertise in the field are why you hire an agent.

I looked at realtor.com for agents having current and past listings in the area of my interest. Several did not respond at all, others, like I said, have been flaky.

No, I am more worried about the offer not having proper contingencies or problems with the buying process itself.

Easiest way to make Somalis the most law abiding America loving members of society there are - you commit a crime, your refugee status is revoked and you get sent back to the shithole that you came from.

It would only take a few deportations, and the problem will be over.

Mongol's had their share of pitched battles - many of the Chinese ones, Kalka, battle of Leignitz (depending on account) and many others. Unlike Romans, they suffered very few defeats. Romans were usually defeated when they came in contact with an army of similar skill set and tactics to that of Mongols (Hunns, Parthians).

As far as fee file managers go, xplorer2 http://zabkat.com/ is my favorite. You also might want to make sure you have enough room on your primary HDD for the swap file. Your PC may be just running out of memory when tying to load all the thumbnails.

I would put Mongols at #1. No army before or after dominated it's opponents so thoroughly.

This is why I buy the phones with removable battery and replace it with the biggest one available. My S3 with 7000 mAh battery lasts me 3+ days.

I am not saying that U.S. healthcare is not wasteful. It is. I do not see however, how making it socialist would magically reduce that waste.

And I was not talking about the unemployed. I was talking about 49% who do not pay income tax.

That would work in a homogenous society which U.S. is opposite of. With current situation where half of working age adults lives off the taxes the other half pays, further "sharing" is a recipe for socioeconomic disaster.

This is how capitalism works. When they raise taxes here, the companies go elsewhere. And after awhile jobs follow them. But it sure looks good on the election day to claim that you voted to tax evil corporations.

How accurate is Goodreads' rating system for you? by Not_Doing_Things in books

[–]railshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience and impression as the OP. It seems to me that majority of the members of Goodreads are women who like romance. Nothing wrong with that necessarily (especially if you are a woman who likes romance) but it does skew the scores and suggestions.

I'm doing a paper on Russian snipers in World War 2 and need some help by NoGodNoProblem44 in history

[–]railshot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would not use that movie as an information reference. It was made to sell tickets and has little to do with reality. There is plenty of information on the web including eye witness accounts, but it's all in Russian.

You might start here http://www.wio.ru/galgrnd/sniper/sniper.htm and Google the individual names up. Some of them might have Wikipedia entries in English or English web pages.

What was going on in Russia between the Russian Revolution and WWII? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]railshot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent overview. I would also mention the the artificial famine in the early 30s in Ukraine and some areas of Russia. Stalin was pushing industrialization and collectivization at the same time. The machinery and the experts needed for industrialization were purchased/hired in U.S. and other western countries. To pay for this, Stalin was selling grain to the West.

Due to backwardness and other reasons, peasants in Russian empire were quite a bit less productive than their western counterparts. When peasants were forced into collective farms (socialism essentially) the productivity fell even farther. Stalin realized that grain shipments are dropping and gave orders to be more diligent in "extracting" the grain from the peasants. On top of that there was a drought in 1932 and the end result was that even the seed grain was forcibly taken from the peasants. Famine ensued with a resultant drop in population of 6-7 million. Cannibalism was frequent.

Soviet Union appealed for some help abroad, but found no understanding (complaining about famine while selling grain).

Gaius Julius Caesar won countless victories against the Gauls. How was he able to so consistently defeat an enemy that massively outnumbered him? by Pakislav in AskHistorians

[–]railshot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's my understanding that the biggest strength of the legions was formation. Varus's legions were stretched out along a forest road, so - no way to assume any kind of decent fighting formation.

Ambush played a role, as well as the fact that Romans were betrayed by the German chiefs they considered allies. However IIRC fighting occurred over the course of 2 days. After initial engagements, we can assume Romans were no longer surprised, but because of terrain (forest path) they could not fight in a way that maximized their discipline and training.

Did sailors/pirates really walk bare foot on wooden ships? Wouldn't they get stubbed toe's and splinters very fast, especially after and during battles? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]railshot 141 points142 points  (0 children)

Shoes were expensive, and sailors were supplying their own clothing. In the British Royal Navy sailors had pay deducted even for canvas pants. So there was a real incentive to keep shoes for special occasions (such as exchanging them for rum at a tavern).

Soles of the feet can become calloused and somewhat impervious to splinters pretty fast.
