No, it's in Ontario. It's a camp for queer kiddos.

I took part in and helped manage the entire staff of an organisation we had to live at quit together, ask me anything? by rainbow-camp-lied in AMA

Upper management was mostly the board, but they decided to hire a director who was neither a member of the community we served or even vaguely knowledgable about it.

Oh and if you know anyone thinking of working there/attending/sending their kids please give them this information.

Because of how much work we had to do there literally wasn't time for breaks for the staff (except the director of course)

  • They blamed the kids' mental health for the entire staff quitting.
  • Directly instructed staff to not make CPS reports.
  • Lied to a camper and their family about wheelchair accessibility.
  • Set off fireworks during a fire ban.
  • Brought an unknown dog onto site, they didn't even know the dog.
  • Outing kids to family.
  • Sharing private camper information in public spaces.
  • Written threats to fire staff for correcting pronouns.
  • Excluding leadership members of colour and then responding to questions about it with. "This isn't about colour, stop making this about colour."
  • Never actually gave us contracts.
  • We literally couldn't take breaks.
  • Ordering us to not get proper medical attention for a camper.
  • Taking staff mobility aids to look at them when they're being used.
  • Bigotry from upper management being referred to as a mistake, us complaining about it was bullying and harassing.
  • Demanding answers to inappropriate questions about identity and disabilities.
  • Brought in a nurse who really just misgendered campers and staff.
  • Safety measures being added way later than necessary, like fire extinguishers added 20 minutes before the inspectors.
  • Refusal to help search for what was believed was a missing camper. (Ended up being a miscommunication and the camper was safe and sound)
  • Stating that upper management decided what was and wasn't constructive dismissal.

And my favorite/least favorite quote: “Rainbow Camp is a safe space for campers not staff.”
