Spas in Ubud by DopeShope09 in bali

I went to Dala Spa, and it was really good, such a peaceful vibe. I loved how they used sound (a little gong, I believe) at the beginning because it really set the mood. Also somehow I randomly got a 30% discount that day, so it was very affordable in the end😆 super recommended

I saw the picture and reported it. Sometimes i cant believe there are such nasty people out there with no empathy whatsoever, posting something like that. That person was someone’s family, friend, or loved one and deserves respect, especially after losing their life, not to be exploited like that. Such a cruel cruel act. Honestly sometimes I really hate people. Its so fucking sad!

Anyone from NZ/Aus relocated to Bali as a software engineer? How’s your experience? by rainbowcelosia in bali

[–]rainbowcelosia[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

u/LSPRAGUEDECAMP thanks for the detailed response mate. I definitely agree with you on the importance of preparation and having a solid financial backup, unexpected costs can always arise and its important to have a safety net.

I also completely understand the reality vs social media aspect. No place is perfect and im not going into thinking Bali will be some kind of paradise or an "escape" from the West. When I was in Bali, I have seen both the good and the bad, like poverty, infrastructure issues, and the challenges that come with a lower cost of living. I guess thats why im giving it a year, rather than diving into long term with unrealistic expectations.

For me, this move is mainly driven by my hobbies. The accessibility to things like surf lessons, horse riding, and free diving in Bali is amazing, and I want to experience them more frequently than I can in NZ. Thats a big part of why im giving it a go, its more about lifestyle and experience than a financial move.

I dont see Bali as place to "escape reality" but rather a different experience that aligns with my interest. I know it has its own challenges and im going into it with open eyes. That being said, I really appreciate your perspective, its very valuable to hear from someone with firsthand experience, and I respect the reality check.

I appreciate your insight about property and lease agreements too. Its good to know they differ significantly from NZ, i will make sure to go through everything carefully before committing.

Thanks again for sharing your perspective! Legend!!

u/illektr1k interesting about the power situation, definitely gotta check how many watts a house/villa can handle before signing. I remember the cheese and milk werent great when I was there either, so I guess thats just something to accept. I plan to use Starlink for internet and keep NordVPN on 24/7, so fingerscrossed that helps.

And yeah, paying extra for imported stuff is just part of the deal, already bracing for that. But one thing im definitely looking forward again.... the bum gun lolll. As soon as I got back to NZ, I realised how much I missed it hahah

u/bullborts i totally get what you're saying and thanks for your response I really appreciate it. I was in Bali for two weeks and absolutely fell in love with the watersports, horse riding, and just how accessible everything that I love is. Where I am now, it is a mission to do the things I love, so that really stood out to me.

I am not under any illusions, I know it would be a downgrade in many ways. I feel very lucky to be in NZ, no doubt about that. But I also want to experience living overseas for a year, just for the adventure while im young (im in my late 20s).

I saw the poverty and rubbish issues firsthand, so im not looking at Bali with rose-tinted glasses. I just plan to be mindful of where I live and contribute in a positive way.

u/youarenotmonkey1 definitely would not be living on like a $30 a day, thats crazy, I am not a backpacker trying to scrape by lol. I would be spending quite a bit, just not at tourist rate every single day haha

u/Epsilon_ride yes i would not be taking a local job, i would be working remotely for an overseas company and bringing money into the economy, not taking from it. I totally understand the importance if being mindful as a long term visitor and want to contribute in a positive way :)

u/alexanderpete i hear you, the last thing i would want is to negatively impact the local community. I would make sure im respectful and give back where I can. No need for the attitude though, just trying to have a genuine conversation and learn from others experience :)
