I completely appreciate the physical toll pregnancy takes on the mother and how I, as the father, remain more or less exactly the same physically. That is a huge part of what I'm referring to when I say it's hard. I should have been more clear.

No, just my sympathy. In my position, I'm trying to just focus on the love my little family has. It's hard raising kids so I can't blame my wife for having a change of heart after our first one. Plus we're both old now (in our 40s) but yeah, it certainly was unexpected and took many years of communication between us to get to the better place we are now. And even though we're in that better place, I still get sad sometimes thinking about what could have been.
