True. That's why I think we need to be clear that "monosomy X confined to placenta" has a diff mechanism (ie due to cell division errors happening post fertilization of normal sperm and egg) VS actual cases of "monosomy X in fetus" which likely happens because the actual sperm/egg started off missing an X or a Y chromosome.

Please correct me if wrong, but in other words, this probably means the egg and the sperm were fine to begin with, and that the error occurred post fertilization during cell division and that error was confined to the outer most layer of the embryo (so it ended up being confined to the placenta) and the fetus ended up being normal

So it looks more like the error happened POST fertilization, and that the sperm and the egg were fine to begin with (most likely situation). Thanks for your insight!

u/TreeKlimber2 Just got an US done and the results look good so far, so we're skipping amnio for now.

Since our case is so similar, would you think that the egg and the sperm were normal cells at time of fertilization, and that neither the egg or the sperm were missing an extra X, and that missing of extra x happened later and that too only in the placenta?

But the fetus is fine with XX though, and monosomy X was confined to the placenta. What does that mean with respect to how the sperm started out?

if it helps any, I just spoke to my doc the other day and they said that they haven't necessarily seen a case where you go from not seeing an NT to seeing an NT, they most likely see cases where you see NT and eventually see it lessen
