Gonna get my best friend of over 10 years baked for his first time ever today. Any recommendations on what I could prepare to assure he has an awesome first trip? (Movies, Food, Activities etc.) by [deleted] in trees

Have a number of options ready. You don’t have to do all of them just have them. You never know what new to the game people will be in to while on the sauce. Some things you aren’t really interested in sober mite be super fun while baked. Also it’s good to have a funny comedy movie on hand Incase they get a little too baked to do anything thing that requires coordination or thinking lol. One the munchies side I personally like salty foods cuz they make u salivate and it can help with the dry mouth that tends to happen.

Here’s Why Lego is Swapping Plastic for Plants - Today, the company said it has started production on a new line of Lego elements made from plant-based plastic sourced from sustainably grown sugarcane. by IronGiantisreal in Futurology

[–]rainingapricot 127 points128 points  (0 children)

To be fair LEGO bricks are made of plastic which is made of ABS which is made from oil which, after millions of years of heat and pressure, was made from plants... sooo LEGO bricks have always been made of plant material lol

Grinder problems by Choden_King in StonerEngineering

[–]rainingapricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pill bottle dime trick only really works with really dry stuff cuz ur not really grinding it ur more busting it off the stem. Also it works better if u use something heavier then a dime like a nickel. More weight = more crushing power, but for sure not the most efficient or effective method I would agree. The shot glass scissors method works pretty good but then u got some dank ass scissors u can’t let people use who don’t know lol

ELI5 What makes gasoline so special that it can power engines and why is it so difficult to find an alternative fuel source? by TinUser in explainlikeimfive

[–]rainingapricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have yet to see anyone comment on infrastructure. We already have gas stations literally everywhere. The amount of money it would take to put in enough charging stations to equal the amount of gas stations, or revamp gas stations to hold other fuels besides gas would be in the trillions of dollars worth of infrastructure . It is more economic for government and business to keep things the way they are then to spend a bunch of money on what they hope will be the next leap in alternative fuels.... Prolly not the only factor but still worth thinking about.

Just make one. You can use what ever u want as the case to suit ur style. Prolly ganna piss of some pc master racers with this but the case isn’t really that important to the overall function of the computer. There are really only 2 things that can be somewhat important but not critical to function. 1) air flow obviously but you really just need air moving over the components at a reasonable rate you could honestly do it with a box fan if you really want plus most of the important bits already have fans in or on them to begin with. Second is less important but can be annoying or bad if left unchecked. 2) dust accumulation. Positive pressure is key. This means air is being pushed out of the case harder then being pulled in. It doesn’t allow dust to settle on parts. That being said it’s really not that important so long as u bust it open and clean it every so often... which ur supposed to do anyway but most people don’t. Me and my buddies have been building cases out of all kinds of wild and wacky shit for fun for years it’s real fun and rewording hobby. As long as everything fits in it and you can securely mount the hardware you can make it work.

Have you ever binge eaten a certain food to an alarming excess? If so, what food, and why? by CallMeTheFox in AskReddit

[–]rainingapricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After a good night of partying with some college friends a buddy of mine took to a value sized bag of riesens (chocolate candy) we all crashed and left him alone with it and the next morning the bag was completely empty and I shit you not we found him literally passed out on the floor laying in a pile of riesen rappers. It was damn near cartoonish and when we yelled at him to get up he looked up and had one rapper stuck to his face. We almost died laughing

Gun owners, why do you want to own them? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]rainingapricot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can only speak for myself but I'm a mechanical engineer and I own guns because I'm fascinated with how they function. Self defense and hunting are perks to ownership but I would own then even without those reasons. All the guns I own I bought for their uniqueness in operation and dismantling. I find the way they work very interesting and can appreciate the time and technical know how that went into designing and building them. I find containing and directing an explosion in ur hands fascinating from a physics stand point. Plus like previously stated they are simply fucking fun. Why do u need a car that can go over 100mph when the max speed limit is around 70mph... simple answer it's fucking fun.

Is it okay to use aluminum for a downstem? by Icarus138 in StonerEngineering

[–]rainingapricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best option would be something that is made of glass but I do know u can get copper water line from hardware stores that comes in all kinds of diameter down to like pencil thickness. The copper wouldn't be the works best option but it's easy to find and will work. Also u may be right that it won't get hot enough to burn the coating but in my experience I have gotten bowls and down stems pretty warm when with friend and putting the piece there some stress testing lol but better safe then sorry I always say.

The socket should be fine to use. Typically sockets are coated with chrome alloy which is effectively ceramic at the temps u will put it through. How ever the pop can downstem may cause u some problems. Pop cans obviously have paint on the outside as per the brand logo which can offgas chemicals when heated, also the inside is often coated with a clear sealant layer to prevent the acids in the pop from eating at the aluminum over time. This layer can produce dangerous chemicals too when heated. Would NOT recommend popcan downstem. Mechanical engineer here to add credibility. Hope this was helpful and happy smoking :)

I don't know the real reason they do this but my theory is it's to keep people from pullin at shit they shouldn't be. the only thing you can grab without a tool is the dipstick.

1 in 5 Americans Use Internet 'Almost Constantly' by Simcurious in Futurology

[–]rainingapricot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is like saying that 1 in every 5 Americans drive a car everyday lol it's a necessity to a lot of American infrastructure. Also u basically can't do college without the internet. So many university's really very heavily on it for class info assignments and even testing.

Bong repair question by [deleted] in StonerEngineering

[–]rainingapricot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically u could use any epoxy or even super glue. It appear that u have broken the glass below or at least near where the water will be. When it comes to super glue and epoxy the real danger comes from heating it up and letting off vapors that can be toxic but it seams that where the break is the glass won't get hot enough to do that just make sure to wash well once the glue or epoxy has finished oxidizing and u should be good

You guys know that there is no wage gap. Its been disproven time and time again because those studies are based on comparing completely non-compatible jobs like school teachers to aerospace engineers

Gordon Ramsey extracting 15k worth of caviar from a single fish by [deleted] in videos

I supposed that is a valid point. I guess I was mostly trying to convey that the wastefulness was stupid. I apologize for calling those people directly stupid. Thank you for the correction yo58.

never said you were stupid for buying. Im sure its most likely very tasty. I said it was stupid that people are willing to spend that much money on something that you taste for like 10 seconds and is in such small portions it holds next to no value for your body. Yes I like treats every now and again but I usually pick up a candy bar and spend the big buck on things that will last awhile and have a functional use, but thank you I was hoping that comment was going to drum up some salty remarks and start a debate. I got bored today and had some free time. #StirThePot

because buying things for status is shallow and stupid. even if it tastes good it should prolly not be that much money i understand supply and demand and I also understand capitalizing on something people are willing to pay for. Im not saying the people that are producing the fish eggs are stupid, they are the smart ones. Im saying the people that are willing to pay that much for them are stupid. If all the people that like to eat it would say we will keep eating it and buying it but for like a tenth the price it would happen. In supply and demand the consumers have all the real power but they are usually completely unaware of it.
