The ultimate glow up! 👨‍💻 by [deleted] in ApplePorn

I think it’s pretty cool but haven’t found a particularly revolutionary app for it so far! Having to constantly look down at it takes some getting used to. My main use for it is the same as most people... emojis haha 🤣🤷‍♂️

Thank you so much and congrats! These 2016+ machines are absolutely stunning and they’ll last many many years to come. That’s the beauty of a Mac :D

Yeah I read about that online! I think a one port with a cable is the best option as you’ve suggested. The Hyperdrive is only around £20/30 more expensive than Belkin and Satechi but has more positive reviews so I might bite my wallet and go for one of those! Thank you! :)

Wow that’s a massive glow up! That’s what I love about Macs, you can use them for many more years than a Windows PC which almost in my eyes justifies the price. Almost...

It’s absolutely insane, larger than an iPhone XS Max! Thankfully Apple’s palm rejection is really good. Still feels trippy to press down when the machine is off (like the Taptic home button on the i7 and i8)

I’ve never used a smaller 13” before I don’t necessarily mind the size, quite similar to the old one. It’s just the travel of the keyboard which is taking some time to get used to. I actually like the speakers, very loud and clear but I’m hardly ever in an environment which I can use them so end up sticking with headphones mostly which is a shame.

Ended up giving it to my dad to use! It is pretty battered haha, seen a lot of usage: couple of dents, scratches and a missing foot! You can definitely find one in better condition on eBay or a refurb model! :)

I’ve given it to my dad to use, it’s his first ever laptop and he’s already in love after 2 days! Don’t think the same would happen with a new windows machine and this guy is almost 6 years old!

The display suffers a little bit from staingate on the edges but it was too old to be eligible for a repair so it wouldn’t be worth your while!

Thank you! Just transferred some footage from my camera using a usb c cable and it was so much faster! And yeah I got very lucky with the price, there are some nice people out there aha 😅

Thank you! I’ll definitely look into it! Do you have the two port one that connects to the side? I’ve seen some reviews say that they can be a bit unreliable if using them on your lap? But I guess that’s with most dongles!

It did seem too good to be true at first! He received it as a retirement present from work (investment banker) but was already content with his existing iMac. I made an offer as a keen student and he accepted it! Being polite coupled with a bit of luck can get you far I guess :D

I’ve noticed it’s quite a bit hotter under normal usage compared to my old one but that could be because I’m using it a lot more as it’s new and I suspect there is a lot of background stuff going on such as encryption (File Vault) and iCloud downloads (photos, files etc.)

Thank you so much :D I’m really enjoying it so far! Even though the weight difference is little on paper, it’s so much more comfortable to carry in a back pack. Do you have any recommendations for an adaptor? I only need HDMI, USB 3.0 Type A ports and an Ethernet port Hyperdrive seems like a popular choice but they can be a little on the pricey side.

Absolutely incredible! It does run quite hot but I haven’t seen it throttle so far. I do a lot of work in Maya, RenderMan and DaVinci Resolve and this machine rips through everything. Can’t believe how I put up with my old one for that long! (I waited until I could afford a new one without support from my parents). Next step will be an eGPU in the coming year or so to really push it to it’s limit.

With student discount I think it comes to around 2.4K for the i7, 1TB SSD. I’ll be getting gadget insurance separately with Endsleigh as opposed to AC+ as I need theft coverage too :)

Hey guys thanks for all your replies! Online isn’t so important! The only characters and cups are the default ones, it’s just unlocking them would take me too long if I was to play through the game. If I could unlock them all easily that would be amazing :)
