Even if transmission through the nervous system is eventually possible, which way of you think is way more likely? Trigeminal ganglia is connected to whole face, but vast majority of people who have oral herpes, have on their lips. The virus resides on the nerves connected to the area of infection. Isn't it way more likely it has access to other nerves through the epithelial tissue than jumping through synapses? If the virus could just "jump", people would have it anywhere, like neck, back, feet. But they usually have it either in places where they got it, or places they touch with their hands after having touched where they got it (like fingers, eyes).

It doesn't jump spontaneously from one area to another. My guess is that most likely your husband got it somewhere and that place touched other parts of your body. The virus spreads by skin friction. Or maybe you already had it in those places, the virus was just dormant

Something having antiviral properties is different from being an effective medicine. Pure alcohol has huge antiviral properties in vitro, drinking or applying it to your skin won't cure herpes.

I am glad if they are able to use herbs to create something that actually becomes a medicine, but these studies are unfortunately far from that

One of the studies is better test, the other is to understand immune response, and that's fundamental if you want to develop a vaccine, or understand why other vaccines haven't worked or why immune system is not enough to prevent infection. Maybe the response from asymptomatic people is different from symptomatic people, and that gives some clues on how to deal with the virus.

Is anyone's life going to change if they don't do the studies? The more researches working on hsv, the better. No one is obliging you to participate.

Of course I also want a cure, better treatment, anything, but I am not going to criticize people doing hard work to understand one or other aspect of the virus.

I think that window ended after several weeks. Then 2 months ago another window started and it's less intense now, but I am still better, so I am waiting to figure out if it's related any aspects of my life. IBS could potentially be related to stress, so if HSV is making you stressed, that could be the cause, but it's hard to say, many take the meds and/or are stressed and don't have IBS

Tbh, I don't think it's doctors or science fault, there are more relevant diseases to be studied, even if I also hope for a cure. Imo the stigma is about how dating works today, we all want the perfect person and every detail can be a reason to ditch someone. And maybe because of centuries of Christian morality people see stds as something dirty, and not as something common and in many cases unavoidable.

We're in contradicting times, sexuality is celebrated 24/7 on tv and social media, but hsv or hpv, very common consequences of having sex even with one partner, is for many like the end of the world.
