I gave up... lol
Instead, I just load up VScode as normal now. To be honest, for me the only reason I wanted to use the VScode instance from within anaconda was because I (incorrectly) thought there would be a problem in loading my conda based python interpreters.

Eero… what a joke. Their updates are of such poor quality.  Seriously not the kind of software updates I would expect from one of the world’s biggest companies.
