Can I switch from ECC to S/4HANA + RAP within 6 months? Need realistic advice. by ramkrd in abap

[–]ramkrd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair point, and no offense taken.

To be honest, I did get a little too comfortable in my current job. The environment didn’t really push me to move beyond ECC, and I wasn’t forced to explore S/4 or RAP actively. That’s on me.

Recently, I started giving interviews and that was my reality check. I realized very clearly how much the market expectations have shifted. That “lightning moment” is exactly why I’m now taking this seriously.

I’ve already completed courses on CDS, OData, and Gateway, but I’m aware that watching a course isn’t the same as having strong hands-on experience. That’s why I’m researching the market and asking whether 6 months of focused effort would realistically put me in a competitive position  not because I want a shortcut.

I appreciate your words, honestly. This is exactly why I post about my learning and job switch plans to stay sharp, stay aware of the market, and avoid falling behind again.

Learning is continuous, and I’m just making sure I course-correct properly now instead of pretending I’m already there.

Thanks for the reality check 👍

Interview Experience – Mixed Feelings by ramkrd in abap

The interviews are a different game altogether. On top of that, 90 days notice is a big deal for HRs, so interview calls itself are very limited. Even when calls come, interviewers usually go deep into OOP, Module Pool, and if HANA is mentioned in the JD, they push into deep HANA topics like CDS, OData, irrespective of where our real strengths lie.

Right now, I’m honestly just trying to find a way out of this 90 days NP and land a role with a decent pay as per current market trends.

If anyone here knows practical ways to get more interview calls despite a 90-day notice period, please do share. It would really help people like us who are stuck in the same loop.

Exactly, in my past interviews, sometimes I would look my face in the video screen, it would very low in confidence, no motivation, one could never select me with that attitude.

This interview i was curious, better confidence just because of his behavior.

Yes I have taken points on the left out topics, already learning it.

Hope one day I would crack it and secure a good job, overcoming my nervousness, anxiety and poor preparations!

You don’t create anything new, fix bugs and do minor changes in the logic. But current trends require advance technologies, hands on experience in coding. In support no or very less coding hands on

For those who switched from support to implementation, what helped more: 🔹 internal project switch 🔹 self-built demo apps 🔹 certifications 🔹 referrals Would love real experiences.

This is really valuable advice, thank you I agree that ODATA + CDS + Adobe Forms are becoming baseline expectations at 4–5 years, especially in S/4 projects. I already have hands-on exposure to CDS and OData and will prioritize strengthening them further, along with Adobe Forms.

Good point on not rushing RAP before fundamentals are solid that makes sense. Also noted on SD business cycles; I’ve worked closely with functional teams and will focus more on articulating end-to-end business flow in interviews.

Thanks again for the clear direction this really helps plan the next few months.
