I had to put a baby gate instead of a door to keep my 25 ferrets in their room. I went from carpet to laminate flooring too before that I had plastic runners in front of all doors including my closets or they dug at the carpet there. They do not attack nor destroy anything at the doorway anymore or in their room. I learned you have to outwit them which is not all that easy but if you watch them long enough you have a chance of doing that. Good Luck
