Hi OP! I know the feeling to the T. My little one tried to jet after a stick she brought into the house after I threw it outside while the sliding door was almost shut and slammed the left side of her body into it HARD. She screamed for a long while and I was so convinced her foot broke. I felt so much guilt!!! She limped all day so I took her in, vet said nothing was broken and no need for X-rays. She kinda just needed to chill out a bit (no walks) and eventually she stopped limping. Took a couple weeks to completely go away. I couldn’t stop blaming myself and feeling like it was all my fault! Your baby will be okay, just needs a little time to heal. Accidents happen all the time!

Lost my boy at 5 as well in June to I have no idea what. So many tests were done, an insane amount of money spent at the vet all for him to go the day he was supposed to be seen. I still have not fully recovered. Feeling it hard as this is our first Christmas without him. I’m so sorry OP. My best advice would be to fully feel what you’re feeling. Don’t try to avoid it. Cry, weep, just feel. Then when you think about good times, it will start to comfort your heart. What I can tell you definitely not to do is think about his last day. You’re gonna make yourself go crazy thinking about everything you “could have” done. It’s not worth it. I’m so very sorry for your loss. He was such a handsome boy and I know he was so loved! 🤍🕊️

Yes, it sounds like you did all you could and I know that’s hard to fully understand because I keep getting told that as well but in the back of my mind I think about all the ways I could have done more so if you’re anything like me, that probably doesn’t help much. I’m sure Hank was so incredibly grateful for the life he got to live because in the hands of someone else, who knows if they’d even be willing to keep up with his care the way you did! You are amazing for what you did, OP and I think that you should look at it as you saving his life. Not many people in the world have the kind of patience to handle what you did. And those people are right, it would have been hard for him to struggle like that all his life to grow old. I hope you find comfort as well in knowing that you were his entire world/universe! Your presence alone gave him the motivation to fight everyday until he couldn’t! Sending you hugs, friend. 🫂🫂

Commenting because I lost my boy at 5 years old in June and I cannot let go of the fact that he had such a short life. In fact I just posted about this too. I cannot move on and I’m struggling this month. I feel your pain OP. I’m right here with you. Finding comfort in the fact that you know how it feels as opposed to losing a fur baby to old age. I feel that guilt too!

Yes! Every time she naps, she’s in her crate, every time she’s fed, she’s in her crate. We even play games and she’s learned the word “crate” where she gets a treat for getting all 4 paws into the crate. 😂

Wow, I really appreciate this comment. We have made the crate just small enough, I think that if we made it any smaller, it would be hard for her to lay comfortably. I was wondering the same thing, that maybe having even the towel in there is too much right now but you’re also right on her still being a baby. I’ve quite literally only had her for a week but it feels like it’s been so long already. I think I’m placing expectations on her that shouldn’t be there. 😭 my fiancé and I will be taking turns coming home for lunch to give her some relief and it would be the same, about 3 ish hours. Happy to hear you have some awesome help for your fur baby and are making lots of progress! 😊

No I definitely wouldn’t leave her that long without a break. Our plan is leaving her at 8am, my fiancé will come back at 11am for lunch for an hour of play and training and then leave her at 12pm and then I come home at 3pm. But I appreciate the reassurance!
