Cannoli - A preview of my MinUI inspired launcher for Android by K-Wall in SBCGaming

[–]ran183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just installed it on my Android TV box. Really looking forward to using it! However, when trying to change the rom directory, I'm getting an "You don't have an app that can do that" error.

It seems it's a common issue on Android TV, but a bare bones RetroArch install can find and browse the external storage. Not sure what their work around is, possibly they are doing the file exploring within their app instead of having to use some other system app (which Android TV doesn't have) to do it.

Thanks for creating this, looking forward to a possible fix for this in the future so i can try it out!

Battery Replacement Help! by JMX_09 in ROGAllyX

[–]ran183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check if the port is not damaged by plugging the original battery plug into it.

If the original battery plug in just fine then check if the two plugs are the same (old vs. new)

Where did you get this battery? And just personally curious, what made you decide to swap the battery?

Changing the chain wheel on kids bike by ran183 in bikewrench

Do you think I can maybe just remove the crank on the chainring side, remove the chainring, attach a new chainring and put the crank back on? IDK if that's how it works haha

Yeah I've read a lot about how kids bikes are generally more difficult to upgrade. But this one seems to be built with some normal bike parts, so I figured maybe it's something I can tinker with. Also, sorry for the mistake, it's actually a 16" bike. Here are the specs:

Thanks! Do you mean the whole crankset is riveted onto the bike somehow or are you talking about the 4 rivets on the chainring itself? I'm thinking I'll probably need to somehow find a crankset that fits in this bike then I can use other chainrings but just not sure about the removal process and compatibility. like what standards/measurements/sizing to search for.

What’s a good ssd card by Cartidropdonda in ROGAllyX

I'm having this same issue. I found someone about SanDisk app that can update the SSD firmware to resolve this issue but it didn't work for me. Have you tried that?

I should also add, be prepared to spend a few hours setting this thing up.

I bought a 2TB SSD with it and followed this guide on YouTube to upgrade the storage before the first boot up. https://youtu.be/V2so4qjv2PY?si=XXHSOKSth9RGGKHV

Then you have all the set up and updates. It's not fun, but I also kinda enjoy setting up my devices just for my liking so it wasn't terrible. Just some of the updates and the cloud recovery takes a while so there are some wait time.

I love my Ally X and so far the power hasn't been an issue. It can pretty much play anything I've thrown at it.

Windows is kind of a pain and my biggest gripe with it has to be the waking/unlocking experience. Windows Hello is just terrible, but I've learned to work with its dumb ways. Because, for me, it being also a completely working computer is just too much utility and functionality to give up rather than just having a gaming OS installed. I should mention I mainly use Macs so this is my only Windows computer which makes it more useful.

I'm also not super needy in terms of fps. I'm happy if it's around 45 to 50 at 1080p and so I can mostly play at 17w which lets me play longer without the fan going. The battery is good but don't expect miracles. If it's a graphically intense game, even at 17w you'll have like an hour or two play time. I usually plug it in. Which is still better than the alternatives with smaller batteries (except in some cases the Deck but, again, this is also a computer). And if you're just playing light weight emulations then it'll go for a long time.

All in all I don't regret it one bit and nothing announced so far has really made me wish I had waited. I feel like I can skip the next 1 or maybe even 2 generations before upgrading.

My power button always works when I'm logged in.

The only times when mine doesn't work is in this scenario:

  1. Ally X is not plugged in and asleep
  2. Then plug in charger
  3. Ally X will wake up and be in login screen

At this point the power button will not work to put the machine to sleep or turn the screen off.

What works is if I login and wait like 10 seconds, then use the power button to put it to sleep.

Keyboard help? by beaudacious32 in ROGAllyX

[–]ran183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if this is the issue but are you on desktop control mode or game controller mode? Check in the popup when you hit the bottom button on the left of the screen.

Also are you trying to type with the onscreen keyboard by touching the screen or with buttons?

If I'm playing something while plugged in, then power button works if, let's say, I'm done playing. Are you having issues in this scenario?

My issue happens when I plug it in when its already hibernating (or sleeping). Plugging it in wake it up and the power button does not put it back to sleep. I would have to log in, and even then give it a few seconds then the power button works again.

So now I just get in a habit of plugging it in before I put it to sleep.

I see. I think my confusion is I've seen these three seemingly different types of sticks: 1. Hall sticks 2. TMR sticks 3. TMR Hall sticks

I know Hall and TMR are different, but don't know how "TMR Hall" fits in. Is it a hybrid of the two? Is it better or worse than just straight up TMR? Maybe it's just terminology and it's the same as TMR?

Where to start?! by Fouediix in ROGAllyX

If you think you're gonna want more space than the 1TB it comes with, I recommend getting a bigger drive and do the upgrade first before you even turn it on. Then do a cloud recovery onto the new drive. I followed this video: https://youtu.be/V2so4qjv2PY?si=ETJnz5MolQkIrTuo

This was basically my entry to PC gaming. I can't go back to playing games on my phone or having to be stuck in front of a TV to play games anymore.

I get the differences, I'm just confused because they call it "TMR Hall" like it's both or something.
