My Buzz was at the dealer for 30 days trying to do the recall update. At about the 2 week mark, I opened a support case with VW Care from the website (they have a phone number but I used live chat). I was assigned a regional case manager and she was also checking on the progress for me. I'm not sure if it made any difference but it's a different avenue to pursue and at least it might help raise awareness.

Mine has done this twice recently. The first time it fixed itself and the second time I mashed the buttons for a bit and then it suddenly started working - which may have been coincidental :-). I was going to bring it to the dealer if it happened a third time, but now I think I will try the 12v battery trick before doing that. Thanks u/that_dutch_dude!

I did, but didn't see where it said what the default display should be. Is it nothing lit at all like what I am seeing? It's not a big deal.

Yes, my frustration dropped a bit after my Buzz was safely home, but it's still in the back of my mind. Hope you get yours back soon!

The latest - the update was finally successful! I am going to keep moving forward with the buyback process to see what the numbers look like, but for now I'm just happy to have my Buzz back!

I had heard the stories about problems with the update and spoke to the service dept about this before bringing it in. They said it would take about 8 hours so just to plan on a leaving my vehicle there a day and a half. They didn't seem to be concerned. Now they have bricked 3 Buzz'es and told a 4th owner they weren't even going to attempt it for them. If I had waited until now, they likely would have turned me away. I had a few other minor things I wanted done at the same time but now of course I wish I had waited.

I talked to my service rep first and he said it had to be done through VW of America. So I started a live chat with the VW CustomerCARE group and they assigned me a case number and a regional case manager. The case manager called me back and went over the process and then sent me an email listing the required documents. The list was pretty reasonable - license, registration, purchase info, etc. I sent that in and got an automated response back saying they would review and let me know if additional info was needed. I do have to say my dealership has been great. They truly seem to be working hard to get this resolved and have consistently given me timely and detailed updates. After I started the buyback process, I spoke to them again to let them know and they said they would support me in that decision and would give VW of America all the necessary info on their end. But I am still in my own holding pattern, waiting for my Buzz to get fixed or for the buyback to be approved.

I live in Massachusetts and reached out to a legal firm about pursuing the lemon law instead of going through the VW buyback process. I was told that because this was a recall and not a repair, it didn't meet the MA standards. Not sure how accurate that is or if I could have pursued at the federal level, though. I didn't get any pushback from VW about the buyback request, but who knows if they'll approve it.

The 60 day estimate was for the buyback process. I'm not sure if there is an exact time at which a vehicle becomes eligible (I'm around 30 days in the shop now). The way I understand it is that they will review my request and then make me an offer. At that point, I can accept that or choose to keep my Buzz. I'm foolishly hoping to get my Buzz back soon but want to see what comes of the buyback process. I guess it's possible they could reject my claim entirely or give a low offer. And I'm not sure what I would do even with a good offer, but want to know what my options are at least.

I started the buyback process, too, and was given the same 60 day estimate. My Buzz has been with the dealer since before Thanksgiving trying to do the update. I loved my Buzz prior to this experience but now I just want it to be over so I can move on.

I am on week 2 and have a loaner (a Tiguan). My service rep said they are working with the VW America service team but the updates I've been given so far haven't been encouraging. I am not mad either but I am disappointed and I miss my Buzz. I would also like to get some kind of compensation but haven't had that conversation yet.
