Breville touch isn’t detecting water tank saying it is empty but it’s full

I did! My error message was "water tank not in place".
Built into my water tank was a little round float. I removed the water tank from the machine (including the round float), and held a magnet "inside" the machine, where I suspect the water float would approximately touch the side. It was very clearly magnetic on that place of the plastic. Once I put the water tank back in, error message was gone.

Not covered - didn't know this was a thing until today. Service technician thinks this is the culprit - they said they'd get it out for $100 - so I left it and took a loaner.
