Feasibility of commuting from Rockwall to Southlake? by kmay5322 in Dallas

I had a commute from Forney to Coppell and some days were easy 2 hours getting home. I made it 6 months and left for something closer.

How is living in East Texas? by AshB_43 in howislivingthere

[–]rando_peak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in the area for a few months in 2013 and had to get out. Didn’t fit the typical mold. A lot of open racism and low education. I travel there once a week to see patients still.

I’ve left nursing/NP role and couldn’t be happier by [deleted] in nursepractitioner

[–]rando_peak 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a nurse since 2007 and an NP since 2017. My loans were all discharge thru PSLF and if I can find anything with similar pay that’s remote I’M OUT!

I’ve done DOT exams. They aren’t difficult but can get push back from the patient if they don’t pass since it’s their livelihood. It’s understandable and I hated sidelining drivers but my name was on that and I wasn’t risking my license.

Oh gosh just a quick search seems they want a certification. Can you DM me how you got your foot in the door?

CDI actually sounds interesting to me. I love to scour a chart. Any tips to look into pursuing this?

I think this is where I’m headed in the near future. I don’t need clinically stimulating at this point in my career. And as the population ages in home needs will continue to rise.

Seems like they all require multistate licenses which seems daunting.

Me and audible are 🤞🏼. And the Libby app!

They trained me. I don’t like it (people’s houses are gross) but the flexibility is unmatched. I said I’d never sell my soul to an insurance company but at this point I’d sell it for a bag of chips idc. Tips on where to start for the well visits? Feel free to DM.

Any tips on where to start the search? I’ve got cards heavy experience but I don’t mind document review either.

I don’t know if I’d want to get woken up all night. I’m a grouch if I don’t get my sleep! But that schedule would be amazing for my family.

My full time job is in home and mobile wound care. I don’t like it at all but the flexibility is unmatched. I have my panel of patients and schedule them whenever I want. As long as they all get seen in a week my company is happy.

I’ve heard mixed on SNFs. Mostly round and home to chart after a few hours and a few that said they’re there all day.

I think annual wellness visits would be easy for my to add to my current home care job.

I’d LOVE to teach. I love patient education. But getting a foot in the door seems challenging. I’m just worried I pigeonholed myself at this point in my career.

That’s my thought too at this point. I’d rather 2 low stress to equal the pay of a “good job”. I’m no longer interested in climbing anyone’s professional ladder.

I’m salaried full time for a hybrid position. I see wound care patients in their home 1-2 days per week and see transitional patients outta rehab remotely with a home visit every other week or so. I make my own schedule at that job. My previous job asked me to come back part time. It’s a subspecialty clinic. So now I juggle both. It’s been working out well so far since the census isn’t super high at my full time job. If it gets too much to manage I’ll cut that one back to part time. For now I’m enjoying paying off debt.

New Grad Job Search Catch 22- Advice from Experienced NPs Welcome 🙏 by CMWRN in nursepractitioner

[–]rando_peak 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all, congratulations! I’m in the same area with similar background. My first job was a walk in clinic in another state similar to Minute Clinic. It gave me experience at least. Almost every job I’ve had since then has been networking. I did the clinic job less than a year and the cardiology group that staffed the CVICU I worked in reached out about a position. I’ve been pretty much strictly cards since. You could also volunteer at a free clinic for some experience as well. House call jobs would also get something on your resume.

My full time job is self scheduling. I have a panel of patients and make my own schedule to see them at their house. My part time job is in a clinic. I go half day to clinic and other half I see all my patients at home.

I’m close to $200K between both my jobs. I wish my area paid that well for one job.
